Health-Care Reform Vote May Come This Week

Abortions funding should not be a part of this plan. There are too many people in this country who believe it is morally wrong. And while they must allow it by others they should not be forced to become party to it.

Thanks for your comments guys, but I will have to say that I agree with the both of you especially that abortion funding should not be apart ( Brother Steve) of this watered down bill (Sister Irma).

Pro-Life Amendment to Health-Care Reform Passes in House

Representatives vote to prohibit federal funding of abortion. An amendment prohibiting government funding of abortion in the House version of health-care reform passed on Saturday by a vote of 240-194. The Stupak-Pitts amendment was the culmination of an effort by Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats to insert language similar to the Hyde Amendment. The Hyde Amendment restricts abortion coverage under Medicaid.

WASHINGTON — President Obama suggested Monday that he was not comfortable with abortion restrictions inserted into the House version of major health care legislation, and he prodded Congress to revise them. “There needs to be some more work before we get to the point where we’re not changing the status quo” on abortion, Mr. Obama said in an interview with ABC News. “And that’s the goal.”

On the one hand, Mr. Obama said, “we’re not looking to change what is the principle that has been in place for a very long time, which is federal dollars are not used to subsidize abortions.” On the other hand, he said, he wanted to make sure “we’re not restricting women’s insurance choices,” because he had promised that “if you’re happy and satisfied with the insurance that you have, it’s not going to change.”

Before passing its health bill on Saturday, the House adopted an amendment that would block the use of federal money for “any health plan that includes coverage of abortion,” except in the case of rape or incest or if the life of a pregnant woman is in danger. Some private insurance now covers abortion. Under the bill, most private insurers would receive federal subsidies on behalf of low- and middle-income people.

The Senate is working on its own version of health legislation...

As some much needed investigations are needed on how the insurance's lobby monies is in control of this bill, I chant(pray) that we do not even get this bill on our presient's desk any times soon. At best it will be so watered down it will not mean anything to/for those who need this reform in the first place if passed now in any form..."I" believe, my sister Jen.(smile)

Steve, abortion is legal in this country...actually "I" believe if the addictive DRUG alcohol is made illegal in this country then a lot of abortions would be needed.Not to mention the needless aborted lives of our young people, old people, unborn by drunk drivers.

Sister Jen, please continue to post these reports. If I had not read what you just said, I would still not be understanding what is happening on this bill about abortion as written in the bill...all I have been able to get is the usual I am for it or I am against it and nothing really about the details in the bill itself...thanks for the follow up.(smile)
