In defense of Ebonics.
I know a few people especially you college educated sadity people whom think you know every damm thing got an issue with Ebonics. It's always sad to see some of our people try to keep us down with their arrogance. Dialects exist in almost every language upon Earth. The Black American experience having come from African Slaves whom pretty much spoke with a tongue that was not an European dialect therefore spoke English in a way not European. It don't take a rocket scientist to see that one. Many English books I'm read concerning American Dialects list Black American as it's on seperate dialect and list their origins in Africa for the reasons why. I know alot of Southern Blacks and Blacks whom speak with so-called Ebonics whom are very educated and some are very wealthy business people...i.e Master P.
Also Slaves were segregated from the rest of the master's society and therefore learning English always more than likely learned it second hand. And seeing that they outlawed slaves reading it was even more second hand recieved and slaves mimmiced what they thought a word sounded like to them in their native tongue. Black Americans speak with more raspiness in our voices as some Whites speak from their nastrals. Most of this comes from Atomosperic pressure and lower altitudes in the South making Southerners sound more with a draw and with Blacks it's our added cultural inheritance coming from Africa where most of languages are spoken with raspiness. This affects North and South of the U.S and well as North and South hemispheres of the planet.
What prevails me is you whom have education don't use it at all. You went to school and learned to speak correctly so you believe and then you use that to attack others of your own kind whom speak typical Black American tongue. How could you do that? Nearly every social class in the U.S speaks some sort of internal dialect limited to their social circles. It is more profuse with us because we are the class that is locked out of the wealth and power. Also our music which is the most popular music drives the pop culture in America where our Ebonics is pushed out over the airwaves day and night. There's no comparing Blacks with Whites or others in Enlish usage people of the wealth and power class are mostly Whites therefore Whites mimmic their rich and wealthy brothers and sisters though they may be poor but it's not always true some speak trailer trash or back country. You noble Blacks whom are blessed to have education need to stop looking down on your own people and start looking up because there's where the competition is. Stop acting like cowardly bullies picking on your own kind with your blessed education and good upbringing. Be a part of the solution and not the part of the damm problem.
Stop downing your own kind. We are in this condition simply because we refuse unite and love ourselves. Language and how we look has nothing to do it. Even education doesn't play that major of a part when you consider without education we could still be nearly to our goals if we just loved ourselves. Stop self hate.

John, very good observation about raspiness This is one of the difficulties to my understanding when combined with the phrasing.
