Drama in the Work-place: Can anyone else relate?
The other night (on Sat) at work a co-worker questioned my professionalism as a nurse saying that I didn't let the doctor know how sick the patient really was. Family that's a No-Go area with me! Tell me something family. Let's say your loved one (your wife, husband, sister, brother, grandmother... you feel me) is having some issues like say they passed out in church and had to be shocked by the EMS on the way to the hospital and end up in my unit on a heart monitor; I call your loved one's doctor to let him know that your family member's heart rate dropped to 40's and the top number of the blood pressure is 69 and the patient has up chucked. Can you doctor come to see the patient? He says no.
The doctor was called 3 separate times before he finally came to see the patient. The co-worker thinks that was a good doctor because he was attentive to the patient ( I think out of guilt because he realized he should have come the first call when I asked him to come). I've been a RN for 13.5 years and a darn good one at that because when you are my color you have to know your stuff 3 times better than the rest of the people. I can count on one hand the number of patients who have died under my care in the years I've been practicing as a nurse because I'm very attentive to the needs of my patients. I lost it with this co-worker and instructed her to never question my professionalism AGAIN under any terms.
Can anyone else relate to a co-worker over stepping their boundaries? Please share.

I can really relate Jen, your confidence and experience needed NO jutification. I feel you handled the situation with tact and diplomacy. Good Job!
