CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS WINS $6 BILLION AFTER BOYCOTT

WASHINGTON — Call it the $6 billion boycott.

By boycotting a key House committee vote last week and threatening to abandon support for banking regulations, members of the Congressional Black Caucus got $4 billion added to a Wall Street regulation bill and $2 billion to a proposed House jobs bill in spending they sought for African American communities.

House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank, D-Mass., this week inserted $3 billion to the legislation to provide low-interest loans to unemployed homeowners in danger of foreclosure. He added $1 billion for neighborhood revitalization programs.

The money would come out of the $700 billion financial rescue fund.

“For those of us who walked out, it was absolutely essential that we have parts of that legislation directed toward helping people who have been left out of all of these bailouts,” Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, D-Mo., one of 10 black caucus members in the Financial Services Committee, said.

The proposed jobs bill targets $1 billion from infrastructure spending for public housing repairs. It also provides $1 billion for an affordable housing trust fund.

With 40 members in the House, the Congressional Black Caucus can be a potent force.

“Since last September, we have continuously voted for bailout and reform for the very institutions that created this devastation, without properly protecting the African-American community or small business,” Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., said on the day of the boycott. “That stops today.”

Among the caucus’ demands were greater assistance for minority-owned auto dealerships and banks that lend in African-American communities and more government advertising in minority-owned media.

Hello,

Someone on the blog said this, “Its interesting how any benefit blacks may receive from the government to which we all pay taxes,”

Dr. King more than 40 years ago brought this same point to the government’s attention that got the sympathy of the Kennedy and Johnson administration, which resulted in affirmative action.

Now, here Black Americans are 40 years later with the same issue in front of us once again, which causes this man to mention that Blacks pay taxes just like everyone else does and receives the less benefits.

So, my question is, which way is up for him?

Mr. Weston "I" see this as a direct effect on our community in te context that "I" use Black power and White power as related to the influnces this has on our being able to flush more and more realities on just how our government uses our votes(in all communities)to lind their own purses and never satisfied search for more and more powers at our expence!!!!!

EXXAMPLE OF THIS IS..

I see this fight among the liberals and the conservatives as responsible for US now been seen how the last administration's being forced to fire all of those Federal attoreyes was more about them refusing to bring false charges on Acorn than about them being Democratsand not Republicans...

AND, THIS HAS ALLOWED (at leas me and those who knnow about this as something now before our Congress)TO SEE THIS AS A POSITIVE ON OuR COMMUNITY...

the last time we got a chance to force our government to act like a government of and by the people we had to hold a civil rights W-A-R on our Federal government...

This blog goes far to showing me about WHY this out cry of the PURE conservatives being against this kinds of spendings... and the money being used to put more traffic lanes in on the #5intestate where all of those homes were just built and because the only way to have a year around good paying jobs is for those in this area(where I live one hour's drive from Sacramento and 2 hrs to Oakland ) where these new home owners work was a death trap before they built these thousands of homes for more traffic on these 2 lane death traps...

keep this money flowing as it saves countless American live especially those on Beale Air Force one mile from where I live!!!!!(smile)
