THE 7.0 EARTHQUAKE THAT HIT HAITI’S CAPITAL, PORT-AU-PRINCE WAS A DEVASTATING DISASTER OF CATACLYSMIC PROPORTIONS. IT MAY TAKE WEEKS BEFORE THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE IS KNOWN. THESE PEOPLE NEED OUR HELP.

As of now, here are some responsible charities that are responding and asking for your financial support:

• Operation USA - sending medical aid, water purification supplies, food supplements

• American Red Cross - has begun to send supplies and has pledged $200,000 in assistance, it is seeking additional funds

• Direct Relief International - emergency aid is being offered to its partners in Haiti to support their response to the quake

• World Vision and CARE- both are assessing the situation to determine the proper emergency response

• Convoy of Hope - is establishing an emergency command center just outside the city of Port-au-Prince where food, water and supplies will be distributed to victims

And remember to follow our Tips for Giving In Times Of Crisis and our guide for Protecting Yourself From Online Scams to help ensure that your gift gets to those who need it the most.

Brother Rich,
I didn't know you posted this. Thanks for the information, because there is utter devastation in Haiti right now. President Obama has issued a statement that the U.S. will provide relief for the country. I heard on CNN that one missionary/worker was trapped for 11 hours! Can you imagine that?

Jen:

Yeah! It is an absolute nightmare. It seems like 9/11 three times over! I fear that just as many people will be killed Let's all hold them in our hearts and in our prayers.

FYI--Union County New Jersey ...over 60, 000 Haitians in and around surrounding areas, average salary $45,000 per year...amount sent to Haiti by Haitians last year in 2009?..over 1 billion dollars..source Haitians for Obama..so as I asked them when they sent that info to me last year...so exactly where did the money go? hmm.

Corrupt government? Where is France in the picture?..We all feel pain for our fellow humans, the innocent specially...the U.S. is partly responsible for the corruption which meant less money, jobs and support for farmers, and lack of technological involvement to rebuild...The CIA KIDNAPPED President Aristide in the middle of the night and deposited him in Africa, (not South Africa where he now lives) source TRANSAFRICA founder Randall Robinson...what a mess. I am the grandmother to 5 out of 8 grandchildren whose paternal family is Haitian.
