On February 16,1970, Joe Frazier Knocked Out Jimmy Ellis In The 5th Round, In New York City's Madison Square Garden, To Become The World Heavyweight Boxing Champion --- Succeeding Muhammad Ali.

Immediately Afterward, Frazier --- Who Up To That Point Had Won 25 Fights With 22 Knockouts, Took Time off To Perform With His Band, The Knockouts, Saying "I'm Gonna Sing Rock 'N Roll Until That Muhammad Ali Or Cassius Clay, Or Whatever His Name Is, Can Fight Me."

On October 1, 1975, Frazier And Ali Met In Their Third And Final Fight In Philippines. In The Fight Dubbed The "Thrilla In Manila," Frazier Lost To Muhammad Ali In 14 Rounds.

Born (January 12, 1944) And Reared In Beaufort, South Carolina, This Son Of Poor Sharecroppers Won The Gold Medal In The Heavyweight Category At The 1964 Summer Olympics In Tokyo, Soon After His 20th Birthday. Frazier Turned Professional In 1965.

On March 8, 1971, At Madison Square Garden, Joe Frazier And Muhammad Ali Met In The First Of their Three Bouts. Frazier Won A Clear, 15-Round, Unanimous Decision. Frazier's Second Fight Against Ali Took Place In 1974, In New York, With Ali Winning A12-round Unanimous Decision.

Frazier Would Eventually Retire In 1981. His Overall Record Is 32 Wins, 4 Losses And 1 Draw --- With 27 Wins By Knockout. He Won 73% Of His Fights By Knockout, Compared To 60% For Ali And 84% for George Foreman.

Joe Frazier Lives In Philadelphia Where He Owns And Manages A Boxing Gym. He Is A Member Of The International Boxing Hall Of Fame.
