Why We Need to Heal

I was recently asked why people of African heritage need to heal.

Why do we need to heal and transform ourselves, our families, our communities and our world?

I thought the answer was obvious, but if it's not, here are some of the many, many reasons why we need to heal.

Physical health problems, mental health problems, the miseducation of our children and much more.

My work is all about the healing.

We need to stop hiding behind the past. Yes we need healing. Now I'm not saying that real black men just leap over every obstacle like Superman. No, we all stumble and fall. But being real men means we don't allow our past to control our present by coming with a "limp" to hide our mitakes. Istead, we accept responsibility for our action, identif what needs to be corrected, and set about being the men God wants us to be.

I completely agree. We need to understand the past so we can create a better future. My work is all about healing and transformation.

I am posting this ongoing article because I was asked "why" we need to heal and we need to understand the causes of these problems.

We need to stop blaming ourselves and each other, heal and move forward.

Brother Page,

I agree that we shouldn't allow our past to control our future. No one can go forward looking behind them --- I know we can study history -- but at the end of the day learn from it and keep it movin' forward.

Have you read the article, Jen? It's not about letting the past control the future. I am talking about what is happening now, and how we can move forward to a better future.
