I know that this is a very sensitive topic, but when I think about it--- it is a little funny having the kids with those signs of the three. It was insensitive on the part of the teachers, but I'm sure it was meant to be funny. I think I would have laughed seeing O.J. Simpson with his hands raised showing those gloves. "If the gloves don't fit, you must a guit". Ha!

On the serious side of things, I agree with what the Superintendent stated regarding there being better role models to choose from. I disagree with the NAACP wanting to have the teachers fired. Instead I think we should allow this to be a teachable moment for them to help them to understand how insensitive their actions were and how they have treaded over barely healed wounds.

I think it should be a requirement for the teachers to teach Black History course/class as part of their rehab and for the next Black History parade, they will have to choose more suitable Black Role Models and participate in the parade by carrying a sign with their African American Role model.

Ps. If I were RuPaul, I would also be upset for being placed amongst Rodman and O.J. RuPaul is much more classy! Ha!

YES WE MUST!!!

Siebra Muhammad Friday, March 5th 2010 at 3:53PM

You all know the old saying "What comes out of the mouth is rooted in the heart?" These teachers didn't mean to do it but they meant what they did.

They're BLOWN, not sorry.

Jen Fad Friday, March 5th 2010 at 3:59PM

Brother Clark,

I hear you loud and clear. Your analysis is very good. I want to give the teacher benefit of doubt and I would love to hear their side of the story. I think it was meant to poke fun not so much at Black History, but for the parade itself. (I found it slightly funny, but then again its probably because I don't care for O.J. or Rodman. RuPaul I Love!!!

Anyway I want to chime in on one point you made regards your wish that hundreds of black parents add to the weight--- Well as you heard from the only Black parent interviewed in this clip it reflects the apathetic attitude I see in so many of us about issues that we feel we can't control nor make a impact on for this reason, I think it would be better that all the parents at the school were to speak out, not just Black parents.

It would make a better impact over the long haul. Black history is American History since Black people fought and died for this country with pride and diginity in the War of 1812, The Boston Tea Party, The American Revolution, the Civil War, both WWI & WWII. We have so many that willingly died for America so it would only be befitting that more Americans express their discontent versus only a minority of the parents from the school.

Hello to All,

As I am generally addressing all of you, I am particularly addressing Ms. Jen for a lack of wisdom and understanding.

Let me make all of you aware that Black Americans has reformed, civilized and made White American people than they were in the past through our sacrifices and sometimes loss of lives and we still on this path, am I right.

For example, was it not Dr. King and the marchers suffered in lost lives to bring White Americans face to face with their inhumane and uncivilized ways? Was it not the case of Brown versus the Board of Education that brought White America face to face with their conscience of what they were doing and to some extent not making better people out of there slaves, as far as education is concerned?

So, when do you suppose all of this will stop that Black Americans could live a life dedicated to life, liberty, happiness and prosperity in our own way?

Do not you all suppose that the Hebrew people suffered the same until God decided to intervene since the Hebrew people were without the wherewithal to have life, liberty, happiness and prosperity in their own way? However, Black America’s situation is just a little bit worse since Black Americans were born into slavery in the Hebrew people were not, am I right.

Nevertheless, my point is this, as God helped the Hebrew people so has God begun to help us.

I know that you all do not hear my voice, but neither did the Hebrew people here Moses voice either, in my right.

Ms. Jen because you feeling compassion for those teachers you are sacrificing the Black children, am I right. The way life works is that something out must receive something. In other words, for every action there is an equal or greater reaction, am I right.

Anyway, when are Black Americans going to consider themselves for a change rather than being concerned for others? Remember, if you are going to be concerned about others you must give up being concern about yourselves, am I right.

I am the way, and besides me, there is no other way that black Americans could ever become real people in this world among other real people.

Lastly, the decision to fire those teachers was well warranted.

Tell me what you think.

[Ms. Jen because you feeling compassion for those teachers you are sacrificing the Black children, am I right.]

Brother Harry,
I believe the best lessons are those that the teachers can learn from thus teachable moments. As I stated before, I think the teachers should be held accountable for their poor judgement by being required to teach a Black History course which I hoping they will be able to appreciate the contributions our people have made and continue to make in this countr and throughout the world.

Harry Watley Saturday, March 6th 2010 at 7:51PM

Hello Ms. Jen,

I understand where you’re coming from, but you are wrong and this is why.

You said this, “I believe the best lessons are those that the teachers can learn from thus teachable moments.”

I beg to differ. The teachers are not going to school to learn, but our elementary children are going to school to learn in these teachers that you have compassion for our not capable of teaching our children. If you wish, you could hold special ed-classes that would satisfy your warped feelings of compassion.

What you are saying is the equivalent putting a thief in charge of money as a teachable moment for the thief. No, Ms. Jan, your rationale is not on the fly with me and I have given you my reasons.

These teachers have shown their appreciation for what Blacks have contributed by their poor judgment and insensitivity to our Black children.

As the superintendent of the school said these teachers could have presented President Barack Obama, the late Johnny Cochran and Dr. Martin Luther King, am I right.

Ms. Jen, you are on the wrong side of the aisle.

Tell me what you think.

Siebra Muhammad Saturday, March 6th 2010 at 9:00PM

Harry, please lay down and rest yourself.

Harry Watley Saturday, March 6th 2010 at 9:50PM

Hello Siebra,

You said this, “Harry, please lay down and rest yourself.”

You need to come with something stronger than what I laid down that would justify your suggestion that I laid down and rest myself, okay.

I deal only in strong intelligence.

Tell me what you think.

Siebra Muhammad Saturday, March 6th 2010 at 9:56PM

ROTFLMAO!!!

Jen Fad Tuesday, March 9th 2010 at 10:28AM

Brother Harry,

I think that people should never be too old to learn thus when one stops learning, one stops growing. Teachers and students can learn from one another, not so?

Harry Watley Tuesday, March 9th 2010 at 4:12PM

Hello Ms. Jen,

You said this, “Teachers and students can learn from one another, not so?”

A comment of yours is absolutely not true. In fact, it is not logical at all.

Students learn from teachers and that is why students go to school. Teachers teach students and that is why they are employed by the school system. When the teachers become an obstacle to the students learning is when the teachers need to be immediately remove ass in this particular case those teachers needed to be removed.

Black American children are suffering, as it is from the insensitivity and lack of interest by these kinds’ teachers that many minority schools all over the country are closing and you are telling me that the teachers need to learn from the students. Your way of thinking, Ms. Jen is awful. Ms. Jen I am surprised that you could not see things better and especially for the Black children.

A study has shown that Black children feel that the elders have abandoned them.

Please rethink your position. It is not wrong for you to tell me that I am right.

Tell me what you think.

Harry Watley Tuesday, March 9th 2010 at 4:17PM

Hello Ms. Taylor,

You said this, “If we demanded black history as a year round education class we wouldn't have to put up with this idiot talk “

Our first concern is to desire to become a sovereign people or have complete independence from White America on a portion of this continent that we could call our very own country with borders. Then, there will be no need for a Black history as a year-round education class.

In other words, Black Americans will be doing our own thing.

We need from God just what God did for the Children of Israel when they were in bondage in Egypt as we are in bondage in White America, am I right. It should not be hard for you to understand what I am saying since you say that you are a devoted believer in God, am I right

Tell me what you think.

Thank you Clark and hopefully we will at least try to stop pointing the finger of blames at all but us for this behavior...in order to "teach" we should along with book learning have some plain old every day "common sense" expeceted by not just those who teach but by those who are being taught!!!!!!!!!!!(smile)

COMMUNICATION MUST WORK BOTH WAYS................

ROBINSON IRMA Thursday, April 10th 2014 at 6:47PM

Well, Siebra, because my just hearing on MSNBC about 2 hours ago how the Catholic schools are N-O-W finding Gay students as not being acceptable as students in 2010 in their (private religious) schools!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

I say allow this teacher in this post to be a "teaching moment" for our youth and use this to start doing what is being done today in the schools of Oakland, Ca. The teachers who have no knnowledge / refusing to "accept" African-American's first language Ebonics be returned to get farther traning in BIA from an African-centered view or they can not continue to teach...

therefore "I" will repaet " S-T-O-P Brainwashing" like the behavior of this ONE in the media (while there are millions of them out there in our public schools not sen over our public air waves)...

BECAUSE ,THESE KINDS OF BEHAVIOR IS NOT JUST LIMITED TO OUR COMMUNITY IT HURTS THE WHOLE OF THE HUMAN RACE. ("I" am not smiling)

And, "I" can not thank you enough, love you enough nor respect your ablilty enough and determination and dedication to our youth, Siebra for being the local Black community we are waiting for. (smile)

ROBINSON IRMA Thursday, April 10th 2014 at 6:47PM

You know that expression about 'experience is the best teacher" well "I" am a passive person so are my children...well today I recieved in the mail a letter from my youngest daughter whose child is in the first grade...part of her letter to me was a letter she had written to God...she always send my something from the Bible in every weekly letter...

now if I have not told any of you this my daughter is such a devoted christian We gave her the nick name the "Walking Bible"...now because I know my child is passive the same way I know if this would have happened at my childs school or any place her son was at...she would have been calling me collect fro,m jail...some people don't have to tell you but once "don't hurt my child" don't harm my child to get back at me...some know it before hand and some learn it the hard way...SELF -ESTEEM IS A GREAT PROTECTOR AGAINST ABUSE OF OUR (any and all of our children)CHILDREN IN ANY WAY FORM OR FASHION, and, will enforce this by any means necessary.(smile)
