There was a great moment before the vote when Nancy Pelosi and John Lewis and other Dems had to get physically into the Capital building to do their govennment business. The decided to walk boldly right through the heart of the Tea Party protestors, walking arm in arm, while enduring their insults.

Later, John Lewis compared the moment to the time he made the March to from Selma to Montgomery and was severly beaten by police.

"This time," he said, "the police were there protecting us."

It was a cool moment in history.

Mozell posted a blog on the value of social media, which I think has a lot of value of course, vs. mainstream media. But we need to figure out how to better utilize this capability to transform it into action.

One of the things I notice. I put two blogs up, one on Black History on the lack of a public option in this LANDMARK health bill, one on HBCU Connect about the Census. No response on either of these important issues. It seems people would rather talk about Beyonce.

Somehow we need to transform all these ideas we have here from TALK to ACTION! We have a powerful tool here, and believe me, there are those that wish to limit our power. Case in point are the issues of Net Neutrality and the National Broadband Plan, other topics that are not getting enough attention!

I'm extremely frustrated to not be able to post blogs on these topics on BIA, as I'm still stuck in the hospital. But even if I could post them, do they get the attention they deserve? And if they did, would we actually have a plan to DO anything about them???

Theresa, I commented on Beyonce too and am still reading the comments on that one as well. And I didn't mean to imply it's not an important issue, but I am biased I guess because I just don't watch, it holds no interest for me, and sometimes I forget that most others do watch. But my thought is that TV has way too much sway over people in many different ways, and I can't even stand to watch it anymore. But I realize it is pretty much a futile effort to get people to turn the damn things off. Of course God says if we have a grain of faith we can move mountains.

I guess I would say I believe in the power of the Written Word.

But speaking of Beyonce, she did look great in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition. But swimsuit photography is a unique combination of fashion, glamour, and the female form.Sorry irma for going off topic again.

To post a blog entitled, a few reasons why you would feel ashamed for being an African-American woman is a sign that you are in desperate need of professional mental help. Perhaps with this new health-care legislation, you could get some professional psychiatric help and I am not being funny.

I realize that Irma’s mental condition was not her point. However, in making her point she exposed something else about her that I noticed, which her mental state of being is. She said she presently has a psychiatrist. So, I am not totally in left field, right.

Irma, sure the government has to change with the society, I agree completely. The founders (I will not call them fathers) would find this life as we now know it, mind boggling. But I don't think the constitution itself is living, we must have some frame of reference, else we may as well burn it and start over. Rather than living, I see it as too often subject to whims and sly workarounds for whatever suits the particular politics of the time that don't wish to honor it. There is a means to change it, the process of amending. But that requires 3/5ths of the states approval. It is much easier just to put that conservative or liberal judge in there and go by the back door. But that in my book is called lying, just as the common lie everyone accepts that we are a democracy. We were founded as a republic, and are now socialist. I believe we should just face the truth and acknowledge what we really are. If they want to burn the constitution and start over, at least that is the honest way and I would be fine with it. As long as we do not burn up those inalienable rights along with it. Thieves and liars have governed throughout history. At least we did have one shining moment, perhaps we will again someday.

But maybe that shining moment is a myth, now I think about it. After all, it was gained at the cost of the slaughter of most of the native inhabitants of this continent, and the enslavement of those of another.

Where does that leave us Irma? Politics will never be the answer. The answer is Community, Love of Truth, and Justice.

I agree. As to not posting on BIA, that was because I was in the hospital and their proxy server blocked access to BIA as a social net site. But not Black History or HBCU Connect. I have to disagree about the primacy of federal over state. The state has primacy in powers not specifically granted to federal by the constitution.

Clark, do you remember me telling you that our attorney general Gerry Brown was going to run again for being our governor and how it was my belief that his hands had been forced to give out information about the 39% insurance raise before he wanted to do so and how the very next day he said he would be running???? tis has taken a lot of pressure off of our present governor so far since he said he would be running which is the last thing Brown needed done...

NOw please check this out how our former insurance commissioair for our state is now in d.c (in the last special election is this state that is totally brok but he has been there a few months now- lol)his name is Gramender (most likely mispelled)I have a picture with Gemanander from 1989 when he was in our local area running for congress way back them.(smile) Oh, I have picctures of Fienstine in her many attempts to get to d. C. and to the governors mansion in Sac...always her sown fall was reporting information about the Night Stalkeer that she had no business doing and after he was caught the night stalker said how he had used her news report to hcang his imo and to get rid of a lot of teh eveidence she said they needed him to have taht they had learned during the investigation that she had no business using to get elected as remaining mayor of San Fran...this put her so far beind her promising femal political career...

tonight the person taking Keith's place on Count Down tonight talked about how and if the suits against the mandate for buying insurence reaches the Supreme Court they will see this as a tax on the states who have emergancy care paid for by tose wh don't have insurance and must by law be treated by said hospitals...

I know and trust our president taht he is an expert in the Cnstutition and would neve allow himself to be led into a trap like this one where this mandate was started by Romney in his state and now he is maybe going to try and run against something in his and Brown's state...
