Prince Estabrook Memorial

"The Shot Heard Round The World" Was Fired On April 19, 1775, Marking The Beginning Of The American Revolutionary War. Among The Minute Men Holding Off The British At The Battle Of Lexington And Concord, As Part Of Captain Parker’s Militia, Was The Slave, Prince Estabrook.

(Five Years Earlier Runaway Slave, Crispus Attucks, Became The First Casualty Of Revolution, When He Was Killed During The Boston Massacre).

Despite Being Wounded In The Shoulder, During This First Battle, Estabrook Continued To Fight For Duration Of The War.As A Soldier In George Washington's Army.

In 1776, Blacks Were 20 Percent Of America's Population. Estabrook And Others Took Part In The Revolutionary War In Large Numbers --- 5,000 Serving In The Continental Army. They, Like Other Black Soldiers Throughout America's History, Fought And Died For Freedom They, Themselves, Didn't Even have.

Prince Estabrook Was Memorialized In Lexington, Massachusetts, In Front Of Buckman Tavern --- April, 2008, For Being The First Black Combatant Of The American Revolution.

ENLIGHTENED!!! I feel such outrage on the lack of information taught in schools regarding black history... You know if more children were familiar with the accomomplishments and contributions from people of color... Our youth today could take more pride in reading and exploring the real history!!

Thanks Gaddy... Another one for my son to add to his composition notebook on AFA!!
