A MOMENT TO INSPIRE ANYONE WHO HAS TOUCHED ALL THE BASES AND IS NOW HEADING HOME ONLY TO FACE A HUGE OBSTACLE

HOW BASEBALL IS LIKE LIFE.

A famous scene in the comic baseball movie “Major League II” came when fictitious Indians center fielder Willie Mays Hayes — played by Omar Epps — dashes home, where White Sox catcher Jack Parkman — portrayed by David Keith — waits with ball in hand. As Parkman crouches down in anticipation of a hard blow, Hayes skies over his head, diving safely into home plate. They he turns and says, “Told you I wasn’t going to slide!”

But that was a movie.

What Fordham University’s Brian Kownacki did on Tuesday night was for real — and he added a flip.

Iona’s catcher, pitcher and manager all argued the call, but there was no denying the acrobatics of that play.

Fordham University was down 9-1 in the eighth inning. The miraculous flip highlighted a nine-run rally that allowed Fordham to tie the game and go ahead to win, 12-9.
