THE ROD AND THE CHILD

THE ROD AND THE CHILD

Old quotes are following me! They must want to be presented or re-interated in my own spirit. I recalled this one: "Spare the rod and spoil the child" I witnessed only yesterday a young mother who was walking with her crying 3-year old. The child was belllowing at the top her voice, but her mother stopped and made her be quiet. Watching them both, I asked the mom.."What's wrong? Is it she doesn't want to leave? "No, her mother stated..."I spanked her!"

How many times have I seen unruly children whose parents did nothing to discipline them? Which reminds me how doctors in the professional of child development tell parents not to spank. In my day-- I got spanked, many children took whippings , but it was lessons of punishments and not acts of abuse. I believe though some parents find it diffucult to draw the line of when to bring about the rod of correction to their children. That's when they abuse them. Parents lose control in themselves and over-do a punishment, or even to the point they fail to justify what the child is being punished for. Children are vunerable and it gives some parents an over-controlling arm. Children should be disciplined, and the rod I say should be only brought out for strong lessons of correction in modification. My understanding of that quote is: "You can spoil your child, but don't put away the rod when its purpose is to teach them what is correct when they have went over-board by "not" following obedience."

"Chasten only when it is necessary...teach them never "spoiling or sparing" them the ways of correction ."

I'm done.

if the rod, belt or whip was used on the exposed buttocks of the males that cannot wear pants correctly,

i believe, that Most juvenile and prison issues effecting America would be solved.

Robert I'm totally in agreement! How so that ROD of correction would be vindicated! It's most shameful to me.

A child should be viewed as a gift or a blessing..........then the rod can be used. The parents love and perspective prevents the rob from becoming abusive. But, if the parent sees the child as a burden or a mistake....then the rod should never be used.

Ms. Shields...is that your picture ?

Jamal it is how I feel about that as well. Children are a blessing and they need love and instruction of correction not abuse. Parents need to know when to use the rod of correction on disobedience children, not a rod of destruction to destroy their happiness or hurt them.

--Is that my picture? I think I'll let you guess....

Love is what children want. This is a great gift. Spoil your child in acts of love and things that are correct. A rod in hand for the wrong reasons is very harmful. Be sure your child understands any punishment is done [for the most part] is from disobeying their parents. Parents who love and spoil them.

Good parents use good judgement, so I know public or private most parents handle the rod with discretion in public or private. Thanks Shorty!

Hello to All,

As far as Black Americans are concerned, “sparing the rod and spoil the child” is not real anymore since White America decided in the 70s how Black Americans should raise up their children.

Children were in courage by schools to bring false charges against their parents when they was told that their parents could not spank them while at the same time the law help the parents liable for the actions of their children.

Since then an entire generation of Blacks has falling by the wayside. I believe that you all are living in the past.

So, my question to all of you is two fold. Firstly, do the four corners of the letter of White America’s laws control Black Americans? Secondly, how can Black Americans permanently get back a handle on their children?

Tell me what you think.

Harry you've made some thought provoking pointers.

I believe all of us here maybe have not gotten that rod out in public, but that "L-O-K-" WAS ENOUGH TO GET THE JOB DONE. (SMILE)
