Did You Miss Google's Tribute To Pac Man's 30th Anniversary?
Instead of its regular logo, Google's front page featured a Pac-Man game that becomes playable when the "Insert Coin" button is pushed. Switching its logo to mark important events is one of the site's shticks, but the gimmicky logos rarely draw as much attention as the one marking the iconic game's 30th anniversary.
"Google doodler Ryan Germick and I made sure to include Pan-Man's original game logic, graphics and sounds, bring back ghosts' individual personalities, and even re-create original bugs from this 1980s masterpiece."
Pac-Mac is moved using the arrow keys, and if players click the "Insert Coin" button a second time, Ms. Pac-Man appears and a second player can control her with the W, A, S and D keys.
Google spokeswoman Wendy Rozeluk said the doodle, which went live Friday morning, is the first one in Google history to run 48 hours, rather than the usual 24.
Originally controlled with a joystick, the game was picked up for distribution in the U.S. on May 22, 1980, and soon became the biggest arcade hit of all time.
