I like Ray Charles, however, I had to go when he started singing "America"

Jecoliah, THANK YOU, for ALL your nice comments and I SO APPRECIATE you reading the posts.

From a lyrical standpoint, I can ABSOLUTELY UNDERSTAND your feelings about the song, "America." LOL

But from the standpoint of MUSICAL ARRANGEMENT, I think it's one of Charles' greatest performances.

Part of the beauty of Black Music is that WE can take a standard, like "America," and embellish it with so much SOUL, that it becomes OURS on a whole different level.

Marvin Gaye did the same thing with the "Star Spangled Banner," Aretha with "Bridge Over Troubled Water," Luther Vandross With "A House Is Not A Home," etc.

"I" will repeat, we as a people don't, can't, find it close to impossiable to do 'standard'...

I guess it is the music that moves the soul maybe / WE GO WITH THE FLOW...lol (smile)
