Jon Stewart: “FOOL ME ONCE, SHAME ON YOU. FOOL ME TWICE, SHAME ON ME. FOOL ME EIGHT TIMES..."

Richard Kigel · Thursday, June 17th 2010 at 4:15PM · 3044 views
With Obama promising a plan to move America toward a non-petroleum based future, Jon Stewart took the time to give a little history lesson on the show last night. As he pointed out, Obama is certainly not the first President to come on TV and talk about a plan for energy-independence. No, no. It seems that going as far back as Nixon, every President has broadcast the same, if not similar, pledge.

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me eight times, I must be a f--king idiot."

The strikingly similar footage of each of the last eight presidents painted a bleak picture of our reliance on oil, but also served as a platform for Stewart to mock our nation's leaders dating back to 1974. The latter, as you can imagine, was quite funny.

Great Rich! I say let's go with Ron Paul and grow industrial marijuana for biomass. But we never could allow that could we?

Harry Watley Thursday, June 17th 2010 at 9:17PM

Hello to All,

I would remind all of you intelligent folks that the slogan, “fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. For me eight times, I must be a f--king idiot” is not applicable since there were eight different presidents that said this. Consequentially, President Obama has not fooled you, am I right.

Tell me what you think.

Steve Williams Thursday, June 17th 2010 at 11:26PM

Not his fault Harry, but the words are just as empty. Takes more than the President to effect such a change.

Steve Williams Thursday, June 17th 2010 at 11:31PM

Hemp is a much better biomass than corn for ethanol production, but will not be allowed by the government at large to be grown, even though it is impossible to get high off the stuff. People might try to hide marijuana among the hemp you see.

Steve Williams Friday, June 18th 2010 at 7:27AM

Hemp IS cheaper than corn, but there are those domestic oil interests and excuses for war to protect. Oh, and political positions of power.

Harry Watley Friday, June 18th 2010 at 7:28AM

Hello Steve,

You said this, “Not his fault Harry, but the words are just as empty.”

It makes no sense to say this about President Obama since his term in office is not up yet. The slogan, “fool me once, shame on you………..” is applicable only to those presidents that said this and are now out of office. Am I making any sense with you?

In addition, to say that it would take more than the President to effect such a change you do not know yet, am I right.

Tell me what you think.

Steve Williams Friday, June 18th 2010 at 8:20AM

Technically you are correct Harry, we will have to wait and see. But I too have a little of the prophet in me.

Steve Williams Friday, June 18th 2010 at 8:25AM

Now my teachers were teaching us when I was about 10 (1966), that we would run out of oil in 40 years or so. Well it's been over 40 years, and here we are. Our dependence on oil will end when the oil runs out.

Steve Williams Friday, June 18th 2010 at 8:26AM

Not a drop sooner.

Siebra Muhammad Friday, June 18th 2010 at 9:06AM

Irma--I am so glad you didn't miss this one. It was special.

Harry Watley Friday, June 18th 2010 at 6:51PM

Hello Steve,

I take pride in being correct since there is no profit in being wrong. Am I making any sense with you?

Steve Williams Friday, June 18th 2010 at 7:57PM

It makes perfect sense Harry, I certainly understand the pride that comes with being always correct.

Harry Watley Friday, June 18th 2010 at 11:49PM

Hello Steve,

It frightens me to be wrong. It is like having that feeling of anxiety whether you have all your ducks in a row. Know what I mean?

Steve Williams Saturday, June 19th 2010 at 7:29AM

I understand Harry, it is difficult to live with uncertainty.

If hemp is cheaper and some on can make a bigger buck off of it than corn then it will get some play. Actually corn is rather expensive to grow as it takes a lot of water to grow it.

dont' forget taht this ehanol is still a from of boot leg liquor and like weed it is only because they have not found a way to tax it is what makes it illegal. lol.

Two tings thhat wre going to become legal in this state and as usual it is all about the almighty $$$...smae s*x marrage and marijuana...and this will be true sooner than later at least in Ca. (smile)
