How can any sane person defend that right of any psychotic psychopath who wants to buy a gun to do so?

Doesn't the public have a right to be protected from that danger?

jenFad and Rich are probably correct that gun ownership is insanity. Hunting a dove with a shotgun is Insanity. Hunting a turkey with an automatic weapon is insane. Hunting a deer with a high caliber marksman weapon is insanity,

In Minnesota every "citizen" has 4 guns. The majority of homicides are domestic, son, mom, dad, uncle----someone these gun owners LOVE by Blood. Once you get out of Twin Cities Minnesota becomes Mississippi----That's Insanity.

So for the sake of George and Thomas and John Adams and the constitutional like---I like to be at least average.

You make an equally good point Brother Earl, but there's a major difference in the average gun crazed knutt having a good than a militia. As Brother Harry often says, "Am I making any sense, let me know what you think. Ok".

Too much of anything can't be good so in America's case, too much freedom is killing us. We have no real controls in place as evidenced by the amount of violence on our televisions, in the theaters, and on the airwaves, not mention in video gaming. Americans act out what they see on a daily basis~~~ like a scene or a script in a movie.

I do understand what you mean in regards to Canada and I'm very familar with Ontario one of the bigger and wealthier Provinces in Canada. I would like to add to what you have stated re: the differences you see [Walking around Toronto you might think you're in the US until you notice that instead of the US flag its the Canadian flag on all the government buildings and other places....] but in my opinion there are far more differences ingrained in their Constitution and society.

The Canadians have a parlimentary system with a Prime Minister instead of a President like the States. Their Constitution is different without all the liberties and ammendments for citizens like the States.

One big difference from the States, is that the govt of Canada have strict controls in place to obtain firearms. People who have guns have to go through alot to get a gun. It's not something lobby groups can control like the NRA. For me that's a major difference.

Canadians have access to American television with the violence, but because the society is different the people don't hold the same values and the society is more family friendly and oriented which speaks volumes to what's near and dear to their hearts.

...and let's not let me forget that Canada has a paid holiday called Family Day which is observed on the 3rd Monday in Feb...

something that "I" never see is along with this 2nd amendment debate are things like this...

1. Yes and we must use the actual guns of this period, because this law sure did not mean an ak 47 or even a home made zip gun... lol

2. Now what is meant by the word weapon / gun...a full can of beer has gotten people in prison for using a 'deadly weapon...a car is a deadly weapon, so is a machine gun...but as it always happens we need someone to get a case in court where one had a gun and the other had a macine gun or a tank may be, before we can get this law where it is not so in favor of the weapon makers...and, those with money...

WE TEND TO OVER LOOK THE COUNTLESS INNOCENT CHILDREN KILLING THEMSELVES AND EACH OTHER...THE LAWS TAHT SAYS YOU CAN HAVE A GUN AS LONG AS IT IS NOT CONCELED/ IS CONCELED...

AND PEOPLE START SHOOTING EACH OTHER SIMPLEY BECAUSE THE OTHER HAD A GUN AND THE OTHER FELT THREATEN BY IT ALTHOUGH TAHT PERSON WAS A COMPLETE STRANGER...

OR THEY THOUGHT THAT OTHER PERSON WAS A RIVAL GANG MEMBER OR JUST WEARING A SKINHEAD HAIR CUT AND THE OTHER A MALCOM x TEE SHIRT AND THEY BOTH FELT THREATENED OF THE OTHER'S GUN RIGHT OUT THERE IN THE OPEN...( it is natural to want to be the one who survives)

ALL OF THIS IS COMING TO OUR COURTS AS LONG AS THERE IS SOMETHING CALLED 'HUMAN BEHAVIOR'...and, my gunis going to be bigger and badder tahan the next person's ...AND NEEDING A DEFENSE IN COURT...

THIS IS AS IT STANDS NOT A LAW THAT CAN BE ACTUALLY ENFORCED, ESPECIALLY IF YOU CAN AFFORD THE BEST ATTORNEY AND IT DOES NOT MATTER IF ONE IS GUILTY OR INNOCENT...IT IS GOING TO CHANGE BY THE $$$$, NOT THE LAW...

and, that man doing prison time here for shooting some people who were in his yard trying to steal his car and he shot them can prove...hell even a police man cannot go around shooting people...and him/ her has the legal right to do so...many people in the milatary killing, shooting the "enemy" are doing time...(smile)

This argument "I" have heard only once..to be able to buy a gun one must be required to know how to use it properly be a condition put on it...picking up a gun and trying to shoot someone may have you shooting your own child or any other innocent person...

I do believe most of our children areby other samll children , because they are courious and less would have to be courious if taught to shoot and to respect the powers of the weapon...

but, we are people who still believe taht this is not going to happen to me or any of my friends or family...

I am so glad taht you have no schools in your area or even have heard about things like drive by shootings or kids killing those who they don't like in theri schools and that you or anyone you know have a chance to get shot / killed just walking down the street or being in a store when someone pulls out a gun...or that you end up doing life or many years in peison for shooting anyone or getting sued for all you have and may ever have and doing so in your own home ...and that you can actually be able to understand that some people would rather die than to kill another person...or go to prison raghet than go to war and kill strangers...

but, this is called freedom of choice and "I" believe from your comments you don't recognize these freedoms at all Earl ...and "I" do respect you for this...

That statement of Earl's for some reason made me thinkof the wife and the co-workers and the neighbors of that man that they found after 21 years on the run until they aged his put a pair of glasses on hims because they listened to a profiler's expertees and put his picture on the America's Most Wanted program...

but, the courts over ruled his friends and that statement of "innocent by way of being a law abiding citizen" and sent him to prison for having killed (with a gun) his wife, three children and his own mother...

or my choice of FACTS OVER SUBJECTIVE OUT BURST...like the ourts and society that O-N-L-Y label one not a responsiable, law abiding citizen until proven in a court of law...and the courts can not charge one with a crime before they commit it and why they don't as "I" don't say people commit crimes because of skin color or what eversubjective labels ..."I" see mankinds' behavior as CAUSE & EFFECT. (S-M-I-L-E)

and, why Earl, I don't take things persoanlly nor do "I" demand that they agree with my way of thinking...I can change my mind any time I want to do so, but facts still remain facts ...(smile)

AND, Earl, your misuse of how Critical Thinking defines a 'slippery slope' argument does not make it what you say it should be either. lol...
