Going overboard

Ty Sherman · Tuesday, July 6th 2010 at 3:51AM · 423 views
I'm new to this site, and I don’t generally blog about anything in particular, unless I come across something that has really upset me. While this site has not upset me, it has caused me to raise and eye brow, and wonder seriously why. While completing my profile I deliberately left out certain information, in an effort to protect my privacy.
Now, some would say that is completely understandable, and I should have that right. However, after completing my profile and pressing enter, I find that not only is the information I entered not what has been displayed, but rather, the site has searched my computer and filled in the blanks with all of my personal information. This is the very personal information, which I obviously did not wish to share with this site or any other site. So then, my question is why? Why must "Black web sites" always go over board? We as African Americans always seem to go overboard on simple task. I have spent a number of hours today in search of "the Black Facebook" and I have yet to come across anything even remotely similar. What I did find was this site (Black in America) and a couple of others, all claiming to be interested in raising social awareness. The rest of the web sites I cam across were all about exploiting young sisters and brothers by showing off their bodies. Neither type of website gave way for a simple place that could be accessed by Black people for Black people in the name of social networking fun. Neither type of website proved to be a place to communicate and hang out, and indeed shake off the ills of this warped and unjust society; a place to just have fun. While sites like "Black in America" do have their place and are greatly needed/ wanted. Why must we go overboard and violate the privacy and rights of the very people we claim to seek justice for? Why is there not a "Black Facebook"? Why must we go overboard?

I guess my brother, it is human nature to go over board despite color. Take for example Adam and Eve in the beginning. They were the first one's to go over board. Now we all are in deep water. So now we all must learn to swim no matter whats in the water. And thank God we now have Jesus who is our life jacket and savior. As far as a black facebook, i encourage you to perhaps create it yourself my friend! You can build your own website easily now days. Just yahoo search "building a website", they do charge monthly but its less than $10. But stay strong and be encouraged, God Bless my brother!

Hey bruh, thanks for your comments, but unfortunately I don't have the time to take on such and endeavor. I'm in the military, and will deploy to Afghanistan next month. However, my search continues for that "Black Facebook" LOL..

Harold Causey,
With all due respect ... not that you obviously would ever care, but our people are just flat out never going to evolve while chained to archaic religious fantasies as you clearly are. The brother's post had absolutely NOTHING to do with religion, yet you base your entire response on it.

I'll get dogged for saying it (as usual) but it's just damn hard to reason with a group of people who close their eyes, put fingers in their ears, and scream "lalalalalala" whenever someone says something they don't wanna hear and have valid points. Just sayin'.

It appears from what I can pick up on your blog you are seeking an honest place where you can read, learn and express values and comments. I would like to welcome you to BIA. Perhaps the precepts of personal information bothers you, however I think is so that one can be allowed to build a relationship to know you in the cyper-space mode. You of course, can always use discretion. We are for the most part very personal here. We have all kind of personalities and individuals as well. The challenges that we face are becoming real face-to-face unlike Facebook we are somewhat different. You'll have the ability of being in a more common aura of sharing what you really think. It's a great place to blog and you're learn of us if you'll continue to stay. Don't let the personal aspects run you off. We are very opened. "Stay a while and if you still feel the same way....we won't take it personal."

WELCOME!

Irma, Miisreal, Craig, I thank you all for your honest feed back and comments. While I do understand that is site was not created to be "facebook like". I was simply wondering out loud, why, with all of the talented brothers and sisters using and creating wonderful sites and programs for the internet. Why haven't we been able to come up with our own Facebook, Myspace etc. I did not intent for my comments to be a criticism of this site (except about my privacy ) :) Rather I was hoping to spark and an intelligent debate about the Black mind set. We are happy to settle with a Facebook or some other social website not create by us for us. Why is that?

Ty Sherman Tuesday, July 6th 2010 at 2:39PM

Irma, I give no orders, well not here anyway, in the Army that is a different story. LOL I was simply asking a question. Why are we happy to settle? I believe in individuality. It takes individuals to make a people and a people to make a nation. However, again I was just wondering out loud. Why hasn't anyone created a social networking site for African Americans that is simply about networking and having fun; a place on the internet to waste some down time with friends? Again, I apologize if I have offended anyone, that was not my intent.

Ty Sherman Tuesday, July 6th 2010 at 5:55PM

hELLO TY AND WELCOME TO THE SITE...All "I" can say is this what you say happened to you did not happen to me...

but "I" have been on the site for a long time so this could well be a change that was not here when I became a member...please stay and hopefully you can be able to get a better and more well rounded out look of my race, the African-Americans. example,

WE ARE INDIVIDUALS. (smile)

ROBINSON IRMA Thursday, April 10th 2014 at 6:47PM

...AND, tY MAY "i ADD THAT THIS SITE WAS CREATED BY SOME ONE (S) WHO BELIEVE ThaT IT WAS TIME FOR ONE AND IT WAS NEEDED...

AND IF YOU BELIEVE THAT A BLACKFACEBOOK IS NEEDED, WELL ...ONE MUST GET TO ONE BEFORE WE CAN GET THE FIRST BLACKFACEBOOK, RIGHT?!?...

AND NOTHING IS STOPPING YOU FROM BEING THAT ONE BUT YOU ?!? (S-M-I-L-E)

ROBINSON IRMA Thursday, April 10th 2014 at 6:47PM

Ty, if you remain in our site community you will get to know how and why "I" always stress the individual therefore you will be able to get to know me as an individual and maybe be albe to leatn just how wrong you are if you blieeve my comment was a critism of you...

"I" believe that each individual is the only expert on themselves and "I" always respect them one and all in this manner of being the best persons they can be in seeking happiness, security only on their own terms...

in their own lives ...

Me, "I" have never been a member of face book or myspace ( but a lot of the members on these HBUC sites are) because they hold no interest for me...My interest lies in the mission statement of this site or "I" would not have been a member. (smile)

or better yet, "Ty "I" am not a race of people" "I" am an individual as well as a N.D. Buddhist as well as a proud Black woman, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, neighbor, ect...My youngest daughter is in the Navy and has been to the middle-east during these wars...I wish you all the best in your tour to the middle-east and "I" will worry about you as well as chant(pray) for your safe return.

MIISRAEL has a site unity prayer service on our site each Sunday.(smile)

" ...WE ARE HAPPY TO SETTLE..." Ty is this a question or a statement?!? tis is conversation with you are is it trying to put you down?!?...

"I" say this as a form of are you here to dilogue or give orders or to make up our minds for us as being one and not many minds?!? (smile) and just rying to get to know you and allow you to know M-E as an individual who does not see "right" nor "wrong" is any and all dialogue because for me it is more important for me to be able to step into the shoes of the one sending the messages that "I" recieve".

(smile)

ROBINSON IRMA Thursday, April 10th 2014 at 6:47PM

To my new site friend, Ty, "I" never accept apology when it is realated in any way to learning / teaching each other... it is only dialogue and never personal with me...but, when you see me put up a "NUP" phrase by me this means it is personal in that comment.lol...

now to the fun part I will do a little gossiping on a few site member friends...do you have a nick name Ty. If so please tell us, because you will some how eventually get one.. Cynthia aka Doc. , Bumble Bee, is famous for nicknames and this habit she got from Richard aka brother Cow and MIISRAEL aka Bride and Jen aka Juicy Fruit...(smile)

again welcome and we look forward hearing about the Army...we have no members in the military only those having been in the military by way some connections in the past...(smile)

ROBINSON IRMA Thursday, April 10th 2014 at 6:47PM

I love you unique name..we have alot of members that we ask or they just tell us where they name comes from, hwat it means...and I meant to put "N" up and I am sure you know what that stands for...so just gready to enjoy your trip along the path of our site's little community...and I give you fair warnings "I" can not wait until you get to meet Harry our first Black America prophet...and you will love him or you will_____you fill in the blank,...you will read some beautiful and inspiring original poems and we have a lot of book authors... but you will never have a dull moment on tis site, promise. (otfl((smile)) I have let you in on the gossip...

ROBINSON IRMA Thursday, April 10th 2014 at 6:47PM

Goodmorning Mr.Tywon , (aka Ty) I do believ my oldest daughter would disagree with you on how your name holds no exciting story behind it...you see she has the same story to tell about her name as she does ...

One day my oldest daughter came to me and asked me why did I name her Enita..she asked me why didn't I name her Anita or Nita like evey one else and not with that odd "E on it?!?

I told her that as she said, all of the other people having the name Anita or Nita was correct but, because she was so very special she needed a special name and how I 'liked' Enita better...as your mother loved Tywon better. (smile) and, I love and respect your Mom for her independance.lol...(smile)

THANKS FOR SHARING...
