Exactly Craig... I hope to not come across parents that I know who has this ideology and would even come close to passing it on to their children. Parents or family members whether upper class, middle class, no class - etc. should always want to push, praise and build up our youth's self esteem. People of Color have come along way, and I feel it's important, that we constantly point out these factors... Even now when they look in their Encyclopedia they can see a Black African American President!!!
I totally agree with you Craig...let's stop this altogether.
Craig
I can assume that you have no teenagers that need guidance. I myself have been guilty of trying to change the direction of my childrens life. Them seem to think that everyone is their friend. I tell them that you can't hang out with people whose ideal of happiness is just doing what makes them feel good.
My youngest 16 year old daughter, is now fond of the singer Rain and the Epith High Korean groups, because I told her that I didn't like to heard all the booty talk in Black music. Was it wrong of me to inspire her to change?
Hi Hello,
There is a big difference between inspiration and good direction vs. tearing down your child's dreams and trying to make that child live the dream that you have for them because you never accomplished yours. Clearly, it is appropriate to give your child direction as you are the adult and they are just children. But remember, God has blessed them with their own talents and aspiration in order for them to contribute something great to our world.
Helen, but I would be wrong to tell you that I agree with what you say about black people making to much negative music. We are the makers of every kind of beautiful music, for if it was for the Negro Spirituals, I don't know how we could have gotten through slavery. I can agree that their is much negative music that our youth are being exposed to on the daily basis and we can certainly re-direct them from listening to such filth, however, I believe that we as a people have created some of the most beautiful music that has ever hit planet earth and nothing could ever change that. Get a selection of some of the great gospel that is being made by Yolanda Adams, Mary/Mary Kirk Franklin, etc. and let you child listen to their positive lyrics. Each and every last one of these musicians are black if you are looking to expose your child to positive black music & musicians.
Love, Light & Words of Encouragement to You And Yours.

Do people still do this? Then just stop it. Stop it now.
