Jane Matilda Bolin

On July 22, 1939, Jane Matilda Bolin Was Sworn In As The First Black Female Judge In The United States. Mayor Fionello La Guardia Appointed Her Judge Of The Court Of Domestic Relations In New York City.

Born April 11, 1908, In yale, New York, Bolin Was The First African American Woman To Graduate From Yale Law School, The First To Join The New York City Bar Association, And The First To Join The City's Law Department.

She Was A Member Of The NAACP, The New York Urban League, The New York County Lawyers Association And The Harlem Lawyers Association.

Prior To Her Death In 1979, Judge Bolin Was An Activist For Children's Rights And Education.
