The Queen's Chair: A Mother's Prayer on BET Review
The station is currently running this gospel play starring Johnny Gill, Shirley Murdock, and Robin Givens. The play's premise focuses on a mother (Givens who is married to a minister, Johnny Gill) who discovers she has ovarian cancer and watches her family fall apart. Her children have been raised in the church and think that following their father's wishes has been too hard.
I have got to say that the surprise in this production was Robin Givens. I already knew she was a good actress, but man...she was phenomenal. And Shirley Murdock was no slouch either. I almost didn't recognize her until she started singing. Gill was adequate. His voice finally fits him at his age.
My complaints with this production: the sound quality. It was horrible. The sets could have been better especially the elder daughter's one-room apartment scene. I wish BET could have done this better.
