DEDICATED TO THOSE FOLKS WHO BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE OF COLOR ALWAYS HAVE TO FIGHT

Richard Kigel · Friday, September 3rd 2010 at 4:59PM · 723 views
Here they are, ordinary, peaceful folks trying to get away from the troubles and turmoils of the world by going to a tennis match here in Queens at the U. S. Open.

Watch that sneaky grandpa at about the one minute mark.

I hope this public service clip shows you all that fighting ain't dignified and is very uncool.

And that goes for fighting with words as well.

INCREASE THE PEACE!!!

Cynthia Merrill Artis Friday, September 3rd 2010 at 5:06PM

peace!!

Richard Kigel Friday, September 3rd 2010 at 5:10PM

Right, Cynthia--

I found this and I immediatley I said--CYNTHIA'S GOT TO SEE IT!!!

So you see, black folks don't have any exclusive claim to fighting. WE ALL do a pretty good job of it!

Richard Kigel Friday, September 3rd 2010 at 6:24PM

Hey...Great to BE back!!!

And Clark--just to let you know...I was inspired to post this by our dear Dr. Artis--who said to me exactly that, something like: "people of color always have to fight!"

And, as alwys, you nailed it. Fighting is part of human nature!!!

Yay!!! Irma!!!

Adam Fate Saturday, September 4th 2010 at 1:51PM

I guess the tennis match wasn't entertainment enough?

Richard Kigel Saturday, September 4th 2010 at 3:32PM

Right, Adam.

I read the news account today--and it gets worse for that tough guy who stood up to a woman and an old man.

He was all big man and mouthy when the woman smacked him. Then security came and the NYPD hauled him off and he started bawling like a baby.

Just goes to show you--that macho man thing is just an act.

Thomasena Martin-Johnson Saturday, September 4th 2010 at 4:52PM

It takes all kinds to tell the truth.

Cynthia Merrill Artis Saturday, September 4th 2010 at 5:04PM

Richard... well... ok... slow on words would be a fable assessment of me.... Irma get off the floor..... LOL

Adam Fate Saturday, September 4th 2010 at 5:50PM

Rich, the old guy had some balls though didn't he? Brass balls.

Siebra Muhammad Saturday, September 4th 2010 at 6:15PM

GOOD POST RICH!!!

Thomasena Martin-Johnson Saturday, September 4th 2010 at 7:10PM

That must have been where his brains were, in those brass balls. Maybe the lady was not hiswife...

Richard Kigel Saturday, September 4th 2010 at 7:29PM

You know, Adam--youi gotta admire the man for sticking up for his daughter.

He was no physical match for the young guy--but he got in his face anyway. good for him.

The crowd was definitely on the side of the woman and her dad.

Richard Kigel Saturday, September 4th 2010 at 7:31PM

Hey Thomasena:

Good to see you!

You know about those men whose little head thinks for his big head.

According to the news report, the old guy was sticking up for his daughter. I would do the same thing--although I would have done it more effectively.

Adam Fate Saturday, September 4th 2010 at 7:48PM

It does my heart good to see that kind of protection. He knew he was no match, but he was a man for his daughter.

Thomasena Martin-Johnson Sunday, September 5th 2010 at 1:36PM

I would want my dad to stick up for me too. However, I would be scared to death if that had been by dad and I would have had to help my dad once contact was made even if I had to hit him in the knees. I also think that the reaction from the other men was because of the lady and the age of the dad.

Cynthia Merrill Artis Sunday, September 5th 2010 at 1:48PM

Personally my thoughts.... Why jump in someone's face when all you are going to do is argue wave your hands back and forth and make a scene. Trust me, we are living in a time where violence is high... All it takes is "I was afraid... for my life"

First off depending on the situation, I'm not going to stand up there and argue with anyone for that length of time ...

Adam Fate Sunday, September 5th 2010 at 1:59PM

Rich, what was the argument about anyway?

Richard Kigel Sunday, September 5th 2010 at 2:06PM

According to the news accounts--and it was big news here in NY because it took place in QUEENS--the young guy was hollering profanities in his rooting. The woman sitting next to him took offense and kept asking him to stop. He insisted that he paid for his ticket and that he had a lot of money riding on the outcome--so he was going to root and nobody could stop him.

I guess he cussed one too many times so she hauled off and smacked him.

So, you see where this is going.

There were any number of alternative scenarios that could have brought a different and more satisfactory outcome. Nobody should have to resort to physical violence, especially when there was so much security around.

It just goes to show you what happens when people lose their heads.
