Lindsay Lohan ordered back to jail

as led away from a Beverly Hills courtroom in handcuffs this afternoon and taken back to jail, where she is expected to spend nearly a month awaiting a hearing for violating her probation by failing a drug test.

Judge Elden Fox denied Lohan bail and set a 22 October hearing to decide whether the 24-year-old had violated terms of her probation on a 2007 conviction for drink-driving and cocaine possession.

The Mean Girls actor spent two weeks in jail in August and 22 further days on a residential drug programme when a different judge ruled she violated probation for the same charge.

After being released from rehab Lohan was subject to court-ordered drug tests. Late last week Lohan sent out a series of messages on Twitter admitting she failed a test and saying she was working to overcome her substance abuse.

"Regrettably I did in fact fail my most recent drug test, and if I am asked I am prepared to appear before Judge Fox," Lohan tweeted last week.

On Monday an arrest warrant was issued and Fox ordered Lohan to appear in his court on Friday.

Lohan's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, did not appear outside the Beverly Hills courthouse after her client was taken into custody, but the actor's estranged father, Michael Lohan, talked to reporters and said he was angry with the judge's decision.

"My daughter's in jail. I'd rather be in jail rather than my daughter today," he said.

Lohan became a teenage star after appearing in the movies Freaky Friday and Herbie: Fully Loaded. She was praised for her small part in Robert Altman's A Prairie Home Companion.

In May 2007 she crashed a Mercedes-Benz on Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills. Police found cocaine in her car and arrested her on suspicion of drink-driving. Two months later she was arrested again on similar charges.

Lohan pleaded no contest to two counts each of drink-driving and being under the influence of cocaine, and one count of reckless driving. She spent 84 minutes in jail before being released due to overcrowding and placed on three years' probation.

Her probation was extended for a year after she missed alcohol education classes, and this year a judge found her guilty of violating probation by again missing the classes, leading to jail and rehab.

Lindsey wouldn't have spent that length of time (22 weeks) in jail for cocaine possession if she was black...I agree she needs a reality check...
