RACE BAITING: HOW G. O. P. SOUTHERN STRATEGY WAS BORN AND CONTINUES TO THRIVE, Rachel Maddow, Oct. 19, 2010
Goldwater managed to win only his own state plus five in the Deep South.
But...something important had changed.
The south voted Republican for the first time since the Civil War. In 1952 and 1956, for the Eisenhower landslide, the Solid South was the only section of the country to vote Democratic.
WHAT HAPPENED???
How did Goldwater suddenly manage to flip the South in 1964?
What else was going on in 1964?
The Civil Rights Act. And Barry Goldwater was against it.
Here is a fascinating piece of electoral history. As usual, Rachel does a masterful reporting job, gathering her data, offering astute analysis and critical thinking.
This should be interesting and informative for eveyone!!!
