Rachel Maddow: "In looking at how extremism is functioning electorally this year, today our staff was researching a potential story about the consequences and repercussions for candidates who say bigoted things."

She continued: "As we researched this potential story, the list of bigoted statements by candidates running in this year's election got so long that we realized it has now BECOME the story."

Rachel interviews Dr. Melissa Harris-Perry, Princeton professor of Politics and African-American Interests. They discuss the use of bigotry for electoral gain. Does it work? And how can it be countered?

Rich, some of us white folk really are looking at the political issues. I refuse to make this election about race. On all sides it is now said we are voting on race. Out of 300,000,000 plus citizens, I don't think it's too hard to find a few for any talking head one may wish to nominate to tell us what We The People think!

You are right--it's not ABOUT race. But it is an undeniable fact that the REpublicans have been using fear mongering and demonizing--againstLatinos, Muslims and gays--to gain votes.

Rachel made the point again this evening. I will post it tomorrow.

@Adam, "I" believe our country would be much more ahead if tis was still limited to race...

it now seem to be more about wh is the most 'brain dead' and htis is mcuh worst for us as a country...and "I" do believe this is the only thing we are #1 at any more if we leave out being the running joke of any sane society. (nup)

ANYONE WHO DON'T THINK BECAUSE OF THE NAME JUAN TAHT JUAN WILLIAMS IS BLACK...HE IS BLACK AND "I" BELIEVE CONDEMNING SOME ONF FOR USING THEIR RIGHTS OF FREEDOM OF RELIGION IS WORST THAN RACE BECAUSE RELIGIONS IS NOT STUCK TO SKIN COLOR OR ECONOMIC WEALTH OR GENDER OR HAIR COLOR OR LENGTHS. (NUP)
