Did Anyone Else See Oprah's Interview with Katherine Jackson Yesterday?

I was really touched watching the interview Oprah did with Micheal's mother on yesterday's Oprah Show. I'd always imagined what she must be like after hearing Michael speak so lovingly of her during many of his comments over his life about her, but yesterday's interview really made me have a reverential feeling of her similar to how I feel about Saint Mary (Jesus’ mother).

She was very candid about what she felt and said that she knew her son was addicted to prescription drugs and plastic surgery and told why she knew he would never hurt children. Oprah even talked with MJ's children and Parris was able to corroborate MJ's love for children.

The highlight of the interview for me was when Ms. Katherine told her (estranged) husband Joe to "get out of denial" that he didn't beat/ whip MJ when he was a child. Ms. Katherine said, "Joe whippings and beatings are the same thing!

One has to have a better appreciation for Ms. Katherine after seeing the Oprah Show; she didn't blindly support MJ, but she did what every mother should do for their children~~love them unconditionally~~ and MJ rewarded her for that~~ intrusting his fortunes and his most precious gifts with her, his children.

Ms. Katherine is the real deal. Does anyone else have any thoughts about the interview?

I addressed way back that under no circumstances is Joe Jackson is to get away with his contribution to harming Michael as Michael's mother watched all this physical abuse on Michael and the other children. Michael may have received the worse abuse because Joe Jackson saw that Micheal had the greatest potential to become who Michael was and is to many of us. Joe Jackson saw the $$$$$$$$$.

I praise Michael's mother for putting together a book on Micheal's life, because she is holding a lot within. Michael was terrorized by his father as a child, you get them while they are young, and in the music he made in the days leading up to his death he speaks about pain, which Michael had a lot of (emotionally and physically). No matter how much money he made, it did not cure the traumatic trauma his own daddy did to him.

In a way I could understand Micheal identifying himself with Peter Pan. Michael had to find happiness in the way he knew how. It is not just Dr. Conrad Murray who should be held responsible for Micheal's death, Joe Jackson should be held accountable too. It is sad that one has to die to get the peace and Joy they should have had while living on earth. It is sad to live and not truly live.

Sister Siebra,

I don't believe back in those days as Oprah put it that Joe was guilty of the "child abuse" as we see it today as Oprah stated, she also got beatings (Mr. Joe calls dem whippings) because that was the "norm" or "culture" back then. Although I don't think he needed to "whip" Micheal to get him to achieve, I believe he did what he thought was good based upon how he (Joe) was brought up. Every child as you know has a different temperment and different discipline methods will work differently to affect a child's behavior. As a result of Mr. Joe's lack of good parenting skills, he did a good deal of harm to MJ's psyche although he turned out a success by Western (capitalist)standards but in the end look at what happened.

I can't get with the Peter Pan bit, but to each his own. I think personally that MJ was a great talent but was very troubled which is the reason we as a community need to really talk about depression and seek professional.
I also love Ms. Jackson's book and I know that it will end up on the NY Best Seller's List. I am definitely going to get a copy! What about you?

thought it was one the most honest interviews given with MJ family and mom. Very candid. I felt it gave insight that they are just people, and have family problems, family moments and are subjected to everyday life and situations.

@ Saint,
Mr. Joe is from my grandmother's generation where "whippings" were allowed and were expected. Shoot what you talkin' bout~~ I remember getting paddled in school in the 4th grade. Yes it was still allowed in school when I was growing up... so I can't be too hard on Mr. Joe. I understand the culture back then and it wasn't just Black people but Whites (although our White brothers and sisters call it "spankings"). So we shouldn't go getting all new and what knot.

People still fail to realize the person Micheal was. He wanted everyone to have and prosper. What interested me the most during the interview was hearing what Micheal's children had to say regarding the their father. I was amazed at how much Paris was willing to share...
