Obviously, they appear on the Sun. This phenomena are result of the Sun bursts of energy known as Sun Flares. It would be irrelevant except that every near 11 years they occur and high energy particles shoot out from the Sun headed for planet earth about at a speed of 1 million miles per hour. And since earth is 93 million miles away from the Sun, it translates that in 93 hours these high energy particles arrive at earth and effect the transmission and communication system on our planet. In addition it effects the earth's magnet field and plays havic on digital electronics.
