News reports confirmed Wednesday that singer Aretha Franklin has pancreatic cancer.

Earlier in the day, family members confirmed to The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News, as well as a local television station, that the singer has cancer, but would not specify what kind nor respond to a report from the National Enquirer that it was pancreatic cancer.

By early evening, however, CBS and NBC News and Associated Press joined the local news media in confirming the news that it was indeed pancreatic cancer.

On Dec. 2, Franklin thanked well-wishers for their love and prayers as she recovered from surgery earlier in the day for a then-undisclosed ailment. A prayer vigil, organized by a city council member and one of Franklin’s aides, was held a day earlier in Detroit.

In a statement to Associated Press following the surgery, the intensely private 68-year-old singer said the procedure was “highly successful.”

@ Sister Irma,
I don't know much about cancer of the pancreas, but I do know that is what actor Patrick Swayze died from recently. I found some good information regarding it (Pancreatic Cancer) though.

My chants (prayers) are being sent for her. she has brought much joy to my life by her music.

Jake, you are so correct about the mortality rate of this cancer. And, I heard something said when they were talking about her cancer this morning on the tv that I have never heard before. One person said taht if it is on one side (I forget what side the right or the left side) would determine how bad the cancer is in being able to treat it.

Has anyone ever heard this before? (smile)

@dOC, EVERYONE i HAVE KNOWN TO HAVE TIS FORM OF CANCER have NOT SURVIVED over a long / short period of time..I also hear that it is a cancer so hard to detect until this helps the mortality rates. (smile)
