The Queen's Chair: What's Your New Year's Resolution?

Marsha Jones · Thursday, December 30th 2010 at 1:07AM · 589 views
Every year, people make promises to change something about their life. People say that this is the year they will lose weight, stop smoking, start a new exercise program or put off that long-awaited project. And ever year, that promise is broken.

I also have people who tell me they don't make the resolutions because they know they can't keep their promise. And a few more think that resolutions are stupid because after you decide what to do, they don't make the effort to even try.

Whether you call them goals or resolutions, I'm doing something different this year. Rather than do the regular weight-loss resolution, I've decided to do something really meaningful. How well do you know your friends? I'm finding five friends that I've lost contact with to re-connect with. Two of the five are old college roommates and the other three are long-lost friends.

A few people I lost touch with because of changes in our lives related to school, marriage and mommyhood. The other one frankly I lost touch because of our occupations. The last one is a long story. We were great friends in college and Facebook helped bring us back together. Constant moves around the country on his part didn't help. But our recent talks reminded me of the fun times, we had and the great conversations. I'm playing catch up and I like it.

Having these people back in my life is great. We are all grown-up now and filling in the gaps for the past 20 years. Learning about our challenges and adventures has made us who we are. Remembering old times reminds us when life was simplier aka no bills or responsibilities.

My 2011 resolution is to get to know five more friends a little bit better. I need my resolutions to have a purpose these days. The more "mature" I become the more my time and what I do with it matters.

@ Irma: You are right, dear. Controlling one's destiny is hard. Surrounding yourself with positive people and energy is a start. I'm coming to your blog.

@ Siebra: Keep up the good writing in 2011. As for the coffee habit, I hope you kick it. I'm not mature enough to drink that stuff.

Marsha, at the first NDB large local meeting, we do a time capsule to put our New Years resolution in and we open it the following year. This year I have decided to value my fellow mankind more than I have done in the past....I have chosen this to do because I have spent too much time getting upset / mad at so many people and this is bothering me. I am not happy when I do this so I am doing more of my Buddhist study in a few special sections on over coming or changing poison into medicine as we say.

Marsha one of the hardest things to do is to be in charge of one's own self,lol...

a lot of my members in my Buddhist practice says for me to chant 10 times before I ever open my mouth to say someting if i am upset and it that is not enough then do more...this way I will have a better chance of not saying something I will regret later.

I just got an idea...Marsha come to my blog I am going to do...this blog gave me the idea ti try and do this...thanks(smile0
