The House that John is Building

Power in the U.S. House officially transferred from Democrats to Republicans when outgoing Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi handed the gavel to incoming Speaker John Boehner. The 112th Congress was sworn in today, with Republicans retaking the majority in the House, 242-193. Democrats control the Senate with 53 members, including two independents. “No longer can we fall short,” Boehner said. “No longer can we kick the can down the road. The people voted to end business as usual, and today we begin to carry out their instructions."
