BALTIMORE -- City police continued Monday to investigate the shooting deaths of a police officer and a civilian near a downtown nightclub.
Four other people, including another officer, were injured in the early Sunday incident.
The officer fatally shot was identified as William H. Torbitt, 33, according to WBAL-TV 11 News I-Team lead investigative reporter Jayne Miller.
Sources familiar with the investigation told Miller that Torbitt was responding to a call for a disturbance at the Select Lounge nightclub on North Paca Street about 1:15 a.m. Sunday. Torbitt first tried to break up a dispute among several women, after which a number of men started attacking Torbitt.
