Good News: U.S. House Legislation Would Halt Abortion Funding

Two bills that were introduced today in the U.S. House of Representatives would keep abortion from being funded by taxpayers or under the health care law. Reps. Chris Smith, R-N.J., and Dan Lipinski, D-Ill., introduced the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, which would convert several pro-life policies — also known as riders — into law. Under current law, funding for abortion is prohibited through a patchwork of policies that must be approved annually. Rep. Joe Pitts, R-Pa., introduced the Protect Life Act, which would resurrect the Stupak amendment and remove abortion funding from the Obama health care law. Both bills would codify conscience protections for health care workers who object to abortion.

Abortion. What do you think of when this eight letter word races throughout your mind? I think of pain, grief and a terrible loss of a blessing — but we as people shouldn’t be so quick to judge. We don’t know someone else’s pain or torture. We don’t know what they went through or would have to go through if they did have a baby. And the government should not have any say-so in whether a woman should have an abortion. I feel as though if you didn’t take part in the process then you shouldn’t have a say in the conclusion. I am pro-choice and proud of it. Edward Abbey once said, “Abolition of a woman's right to abortion, when and if she wants it, amounts to compulsory maternity: a form of rape by the state.”

Jen this is a great promise of something long waited by anti-abortionists. It's getting very senseless in the number of abortions performed each year-- and all mostly because many women and/ or men do not practice safe-s*x and prevention methods. However, I have a fear taken away women would go back to using quack doctors to perform abortions risking not only one life but two that of the unborn fetus. Is there a winning answer? There is but the persons will have to be more aware and use the facets before them. Why aren't women listening?

I agree with you regarding there are just too, many abortions being performed and many aren't medically necessary. Abortion shouldn't be a used as a form of birth control. We need to recognize what abortion is--- Genocide. ... at least that's what I call it. I read a great book called, A Piece of Cake a few years ago. The book was an memoir of a lady named Cupcake Brown who's life spiraled out of control after her mother died when she was about 8 or 9. She said she had over 8 abortions! Can you imagine that?

The studies show that most people aren't totally Pro-Life or Pro-Choice.
..."Gallup polling from 1996 to 2009 consistently reveals that when asked the question, "Do you think abortions should be legal under any circumstances, legal only under certain circumstances, or illegal in all circumstances?", Americans repeatedly answer 'legal only under certain circumstances'. According to the poll, in any given year 48-57% say legal only under certain circumstances (for 2009, 57%), 21-34% say legal under any circumstances (for 2009, 21%), and 13-19% illegal in all circumstances (for 2009, 18%), with 1-7% having no opinion (for 2009, 4%).”...
