The employment market has changed. Most people have altered their spending habits because of the economy. There is only one way to survive----target needs, not wants. This is true when planing to start a business and in personal life. Some profitable ventures are (1) the aging population. According to the US Census by 2030,71 million americans will be over 65 years old. 30 % of elderly americans live alone and 90% says they want to grow old in their home. This opens up opportunities for in home care businesses. (2) food pricing are rising.
Americans are looking for local grown food. Local community gardens are sprouting up even in urban areas. Some produce enough products to sell as a profit. http://www.spinfarming.com (3) Recycle/Reuse There has been an increased awareness of reusing items. One local group in the Boston area started up a cooperative of collecting used oil and selling it. www.roxburygreenpower.com .
I can't over look the need for us to support our own black business in order to move forward.

Jen my sister(a social worker) works for a company that services elders. They have nurses, housekeepers, social workers, personal care workers on staff. The company is 100% black owned and operated and 98% black staffed. They are constantly adding new customers.
The Roxbury Green Power is a cooperative business with former imates.
We can do more than have beauty shops/barber, liquor stores and nail salons. There is a market out there that we need to tap into if we want to be employed.
