When will parents really make education a priority?

I hear you loud and clear on the issue of education Brother! I remember my mom working every night of the week practically in the cotten mills of South Carolina trying to make sure I had food and clothes as well as shelter.

Now as a parent of a 5 year old, I've learned that life is about sacrifices like my mom made for me. As a RN, I've learned how to juggle my schedule in order to be present at PTA meetings and various other school related functions so that my little one knows that education is of the up most importance. He needs to learn that early in his life so that he knows that I expect him to excel.

You're right Brother George. We need to stop blaming the teachers and the school for our kids failures and look at the man in the mirror to see who is really responsible.

That is a very valid observation. The problem that lies before us is lack of attention from parental guardians. Our children are crying out and we still remain silent to the whisper. WE hear but we do not listen, WE listen but we do not listen. For every action there is a reaction. For every child that is ignored, there is always someone standing in the Gap to give that child the attention he/she craves. Many times we like to place the blame on administrators saying that they are not doing enough in the schools to prevent our children from giving in to the pressure of living up to a certain status quo the society has placed on them. If we really want to address the issue, we must first learn to be honest and real. We must learn to take responsibility and place blame where blame lies and stop blaming the wrong people. Yes educators have a certain responsibility, but as a parent I do not expect an educator to educate my child on what I should be doing and should have done as a parent. We send our children to school to get an education, not for our school staff to raise our children. Yes I expect them to go above and beyond, are they required, no they are not. They took an oath to educate our children based on the reading, writing and arithmetic of basic education, not teach my child the necessities of life that should be learned at home. It is the ultimate responsibility of the parent to train up a child. From the time our children are birthed to the day we release them into the world, we as parents are held responsible for how we treat our children. God tells us that it is better for us to go and tie a brick around our neck and jump in the river, than to harm one of his children. We as parents need to get serious about taking care of our children and step up to plate. Yes educators will also have to answer to God for the role they have played in molding our children. Parenting and education begins at home, and I refuse to place all the blame on these teachers. No matter how many programs we try and want to implement in school, those programs will not take affect or have an effect on the students because we are sending them right back home to the same place where they are crying out for help. WE NEED TO BE ADDRESSING THE PARENTS AND ATTACKING THE PARENTS FOR HOW WE ARE RAISING OUR CHILDREN. PARENTS HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY AND WE ARE NOT LIVING UP TO OUR JOB. AS A PARENT YOUR FIRST JOB IS A PARENT. YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO MOLD YOUR CHILD INTO A BEAUTIFUL INDIVIDUAL. Let’s face it, children are born innocent, we create the chaos that our children live in. We often do not realize that our children already are born with a lot of problems on their shoulder. They not only have to overcome what is before them presently, but they also have to overcome what we as parents have done. We can talk to students all day long, but if at the end of the day, the place where they reside, if there is no support then, that child will continue to cry out. We must also tell our children that when they have been given the correct information, they have been raised correctly and they know what right and wrong is, they still choose to make unwise decisions, they must learn to deal with their decision which will hopefully persuade them to change their course in life. But I am a firm believer that for every decision we make, there is a reason why that decision was made. When we talk to our children, we will know why they are making these types of decisions. As parents it is our job to provide a safe haven for our children. Yes we do have some educators who are not doing what they are supposed to do, but for those who are, I applaud our teachers for having the courage to get up day in and day out and face the chaos and the stereo types that society has placed on them. A lot of our educators are being intimidated as a result of lack of parenting. When you have a lack of parenting you create a chain reaction for every individual that has to deal with your child. We cannot give our children adult freedom at home and then expect them to be a child at school. We are sending too many mixed messages. Yes we still need to teach our children how to make wise decisions, but MORE IMPORTANTLY WE NEED TO LOCK UP OUR PARENTS AND EDUCATE THEM ON THE EDUCATION/PARENTING OF A CHILD.

I agree with you on so many points you made, but the most important one is that we need to complement what is being taught in the classroom at home so that kids know that we are on board with what the teacher is teaching them at school.

What??? To not take Education a priority!!! JEN... you are so right!! Parents must be involved in their childs curriculum and parents must be involved... PTA, Teacher Parent Meetings.... and visit our childrens class room, class structure.... That's some of the key things I look for.... Im looking for maps on the walls.... pictures on the bulletin boards... And I also take my son to my college campus for the exposure!!! Im training him NOW... Higher Learning is a Priority.... not an option!

Parents do make Education a Priority, educate ignorance, decadence or Wisdom.

last night we had grammeries, probably 90% of teens can Mouth the lyrics to gagaMinaj and blackEyeBS and any of siebraHIPPPITYHOPS----but science, math, technology, LOGIC and social studies are Education also.

many "single adults" in our society and at BIA Mouth decadent lyrics with no science, math, technology, or LOGIC.

Sons of frightened deleting, 'word destroyers' ban thought and have 6000 hits of Foolishness...................

A Parent gives EDUCATION of science, math, technology, LOGIC and social studies; not the decadence of foolishnessness.

A Parent is not a biological producer---but a Responsible member of The Family of Adaam(as).

YOU both are so right.... As for sports.... Nope Im not big into it and neither is my youngest son, my oldest son was involved....

But my youngest is growing up with the High Technology... so everything he enjoys is mostly centered around.... Science, Computer
Technology, Architecture and he's even doing a lil sumn' sumn' with web design...

I stay involved with his routines .... education moral values along with a firm hand on occassion.... Is definitely a given.... And I told my son, I get up and go to work so that we can have our needs .... He's in school and that's his job... and the very day I get a call about come to check on him..... well u know!
