WISCONSIN GOV. WALKER WENT UNION BUSTING IN MILWAUKEE--IT WAS DISASTROUS, Rachel Maddow, Feb. 22, 201122, 2

The last time Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) went after public sector unions it had “disastrous results” for him and for taxpayers. As Milwaukee County Executive in 2009, Walker tried to get rid of the unionized security guards at the county courthouse and replace them with contractors, which he promised would save the county money.

The County Board rejected the idea, but in March of 2010 Walker “unilaterally ordered it,” claiming there was a budget emergency. Walker hired the British security contractor Wackenhut — of Kabul Embassy s*x scandal fame — to replace the guards.

Unfortunately for Walker and Milwaukee taxpayers, an arbiter later ruled that Walker had overstepped his authority, and ordered the county to reinstate the unionized workers, pay backwages, and pay tens-of-thousands of dollars in arbiter fees. As MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow pointed out last night, Walker’s “dress rehearsal” for his current union busting effort may end up costing Milwaukee taxpayers an extra half a million dollars.

While his anti-union crusade proved to be a boondoggle for Milwaukee County, Walker had escaped in time to wash his hands clean of it, as the arbiter’s ruling against didn’t come down until last month — after Walker had been sworn in as governor. Maddow also notes that the man put in charge of Wackenhut’s security at the courthouse had a criminal record and had served prison time.

Nice work, Gov.

Right, Irma--
I hope the mainstream media picks this story up because it shows how Gov. Walker's kill the union strategy is actually counterproductive to his stated goals.

@Rich, as the governor of N.J. is more out spoken than it seem any other Republican governor, and as it seem the focus the in the public's 2011 is on how the middle-class has been out sourced is being talked about in a way the politicians of all parties have avoided up to now...this governor of N.J. is now going to be red meat for not just the liberals but a scape goat for the Teaparty.

ONLY IN AMERICA...IS THE EXCUSES FOR OUT OF CONTROL GAS PRICES NOT GOING TO WORK ANY MORE...(AND, MAYBE OFF TOPIC ALSO) I JUST SAW A CRY FOR MORE OIL DRILLING IN AMERICA. LOL ...

WHEN WILL WE GET THE IDEA THAT THE WHOLD WORLD IS DEMANDING C-H-A-N-G-E FROM PROTECTING THE GREEDY AT TEH TOP AS OUR SOCIAL/ ECOMONIC NORM AS IT HAS NOT WORKED AT ALL EVEN TEH TAX CUT FOR THE RICH NOT WORKING IS BEING TALKED ABOUT MORE AND MORE EACH DAY...?!? (SMILE)

@Jen, I do believe this governor is or maybe should be giving his thanks that his state has a law in place the he cna not be recalled until after he has been in office for one year...

But ,the way truths / lies now coming out and into his daily life, just may not be a blessing. If he wants to protect what little dignity he has he would be wiser to resign before every thing he has ever done / can be accused of doing hits the public courts of opinions. lol (smile)
