DIANA ROSS TO APPEAR ON OPRAH TODAY

Diana Ross is on The Oprah Winfrey Show today with her family in tow. The Supremes icon and Lady Sings the Blues actress is surprised by Billie Dee Williams, who makes a cameo on the show. This represents her first appearance on television in years.

Motown was anointed with the likes of the Supremes' lead that epitomized grace, charm, struggle, and the strength in African American women during the '60s.

For years, she has largely been out of the limelight, but Ross joined Oprah in an hour-long pre-taped show today. It's part of the Farewell Season with the Queen of Talk.

Joining the beloved entertainer will be her family members, Tracee Ellis Ross, Chudney Ross, Rhonda Ross Kendrick, Ross Arne Naess, Evan Ross, and her first grandchild, Raif. Imagine that -- Diana Ross on Oprah?

In addition to sitting down with Oprah about her life and legacy, Ross performed her '80s hit classic, I'm Coming Out.

At one point in the show, Diana Ross, 66, is told by Oprah that during her film heyday, "there weren't any women on television who looked like you."

When Ross starred in Lady Sings the Blues and Mahogany, she went against the grain of the films referred to as blaxploitation movies.

Perhaps that was a good thing for women. During the height of the civil rights era, there were so many odds against them that formed a barrier to their voice and center. Diana Ross gave Black women of the world an opportunity to dream.

Billie Dee Williams, who starred alongside Ross in several iconic films, makes a surprise visit on the show today. It is a moment to remember.

Diana Ross on Oprah marked a pivotal moment in history in which the people and things that we once knew can come full circle and continue to flourish.

The appearance on Oprah today marked the beginning of a spring tour for the legend. Her first stop is in Choctaw, Mississippi on Friday Feb. 2.
