Track and field legend Carl Lewis officially announced on Monday that he’s entering a race — a political race, that is.

The AP reported that Lewis, now 49, announced his bid to represent his hometown of Willingboro, N.J., in the state Senate. He will run as a Democrat in the state’s 8th District for the seat currently held by Republican Dawn Addiego.

According to the AP, the nine-time Olympic gold medalist said he “hopes to inspire people, encourage communities and improve educational opportunities for children.” After the press conference, the U.N. goodwill ambassador and founder of the Carl Lewis Foundation headed to Willingboro High School, where he is a volunteer track coach.

@Rich, I heard a promo as in an ad by the station to stay tuned as they were going to an ad by showing a picture of C.L. so thanks for this post as I did not say tuned. lol (smile)

But, my brother Cow, you know my way of thinking, and I see the governor of this state as not being very happy over this at all, because I can picture CArl Lewis as being DIRECTLY identified with Main street....

End Of Story. (rotfl) (smile)
