Pakistan raps US over bin Laden operation

Pakistani has strongly condemned the US for carrying out an unauthorized operation on Pakistani soil that led to killing of Osama bin Laden.
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that "unauthorized unilateral" action could threaten international peace.
"Pakistan expresses its deep concerns and reservations on the manner in which the government of the United States carried out this operation without prior information or authorization from the government of Pakistan," the statement read.
The remarks come after US President Barack Obama announced that the al-Qaeda leader had been killed in a military attack on a compound in northeastern Pakistan.
Islamabad has acknowledged that it had no knowledge of the raid on its soil before it took place.
Meanwhile, CIA Director Leon Panetta has said in an interview with the Time magazine that the United States did not inform Islamabad about the operation because it feared Pakistan might alert the al-Qaeda chief.
Panetta said it was decided that working with Pakistan could jeopardize the mission.
This also comes as pressure mounts on Islamabad to explain how bin Laden managed to hide out in a compound near a military camp for several years.
There are suggestions that the Pakistani government knew where bin Laden was hiding because he lived close to a military camp near Islamabad for several years. Pakistan has denied the accusations.
American lawmakers say they may consider reducing the annual US aid to Pakistan if it turns out that it was aware of bin Laden's whereabouts.
Security officials in Islamabad say that American helicopters had flown into Pakistan "undetected" using "blind spots" in the radar.
Islamabad military also says it dispatched fighter jets within minutes once it realized the helicopters were operating in its air space.
