The Mississippi River Commission has given U.S. Army Corp of Engineers the authority to open the Morganza Spillway ,

CNN Breaking News U.S. Army Corps Engineers will open the first bay of Louisiana's Morganza Spillway at 3pm
(4 p.m. ET), Col. Ed Fleming said. The move is aimed at lowering anticipated cresting levels along the rising Mississippi River and divert water from Baton Rouge and New Orleans. The move would flood parts of low-lying south-central Louisiana.
