Clara Luper known as the Mother of Civil Rights passed away after a long illness on June 09, 2011. Luper is known by leading sit-ins at a drug store lunch counter during the civil rights movement. On August 19, 1958 she and 3 chaperones and 14 members of the youth council conducted sit-ins at the Katz Drug Stores in Oklahoma, Missours, Kansas and Iowa. The store chain refused to serve the protesters lunch. However, later the store chains agreed to integrate lunch counters at it's 38 locations in those states. Since then most of these store chains have been long closed and no longer in operation. Oklahoma city since then named a street in Luper's honor and has a scholarship in her name at Oklahoma City University. Oklahoma Civil Mother will never be forgotten for her attributions to have equality for the Black race. She was really a Civil Rights Mother for so many.
