FAMILY HOPES GRAND JURY LEADS TO JUSTICE IN CIVIL RIGHTS ERA COLD CASE
INDIANA--Rosa Williams was encouraged when she heard a grand jury was meeting about the death of her grandfather, Frank Morris, who burned to death in his Louisiana shoe shop in 1964 in a suspected Ku Klux Klan attack.
But the waiting as the investigation continues in Concordia Parish is difficult as well.
People with knowledge of the case say a grand jury has met off and on since February. But an indictment is not guaranteed.
Dane Ciolino, a law professor at Loyola University in New Orleans, said prosecutors could be using the subpoena power of the grand jury to question witnesses or to obtain testimony from elderly people before their stories are lost.
Federal officials confirm the investigation is continuing but will say nothing about the grand jury.
