Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter has had enough of flash mobs of black youth attacking innocent people. At his own church he gave a speech in which he laid the law down to both black youth and their parents. He tells these youth that they have let down their own race. Although I empathize with the Mayor of this city and can even understand some of his frustrations to keep his city and the citizens of his city safe; he needs to understand that kids get in trouble when there isn't enough activity for them to release their youthful energy irrespective of whether they come from good families or suspect families. I agree with him that the youth of Philly are good, but when the youth don't have enough to do, it is a fact of life that an idle mind is the devil's workshop.
I propose that the Mayor help these youth and the parents by providing outlets other than Libraries for these youth. Provide alternative than lock up, but the opening of recreational centers all over the community where they can release some of their energy. Provide parents with parenting workshops as well as job training workshops to update their skills inorder to get qualified for better paying jobs.
The economy is having challenges and increases in violence is only reflective of what is going on overall. When parents don't have money to feed their kids and to keep the lights on--- what does he expect?
Tough love ( "Leave the innocent people walking down the street minding their own damn business alone.") has its place, but the Mayor using this type of language and trying to make a few Black people to be reflective of the entire race is ludicrous! This tough talk talking about locking up these troubled youth is CRAZY! Unacceptable and I'm appauled with the Mayor's racist, stereotypical, and unprofessional tone and language. These people are applauding him when they really should be calling for his resignation or an apology. This is CRAZY!
