The quake was centered near Louisa, Va., in Louisa County, which is northwest of Richmond and south of Washington. The US Weather Service said no is tsunami expected after the quake.

Obama and many of the nation's leaders were out of town on August vacation when the quake struck at 1:51 p.m. EDT. The shaking was felt on the Martha's Vineyard golf course as Obama was just starting a round.

The East Coast gets earthquakes, but usually smaller ones and is less prepared than California or Alaska for shaking.

Jen, all is well. It was the tv report about people now a day use their cell phones more than the land lines...so I called the cell phones...two of the cell phone calls got cut off, but the third one I was able to find out all are well. (smile)

Me, I still don't have a cell phone...I am too tech brain dead, plus I am at home all of the time any way and still have never had a driver's liscense.lol (smile)
