Honorary member of the Civil Rights era Fred Shuttlesworth has passed away at the age of 89 years old. He departed his life at the Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, AL on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. Shuttlesworth was adovacate of freedom rights for Blacks and trooper for equality for all human race. He survived the 1956 bombings attack and an assault on his life in 1957. Shuttlesworth led a full career in always improving living conditions of all people and was a devote humanitarian. He is responsible for participation in starting The Southern Christian Leadership Conference. His career opened doors for Black leadership and growth. He will be greatly remembered by many. Flags in Birmingham hang half-staff in his memorial.

I too had not ever remembered hearing of Pastor Shuttlesworth. He was very close to MLK and was with him in the high impact of the civil marches. So many people we don't know about were partakers in such a historic time in civil rights. It's completely
