POEM: T.O.D.A.Y

T.O.D.A.Y.

Today is different, like no other day I’ve seen
Come walk with me, let me show you what I mean
There’s something special about this day.
This morning I felt relieved, kind of refreshed in a way

Others may not understand, because they cannot see
Why I glow from the joy that has overtakened me
I am made free from the concerns that burdened me so
Today it was time I decided to just let it all go.

No, I’m not bound by other peoples thoughts of me
I don’t need validation or for anyone to even agree
Today I realized, loving myself is all it took.
My outcome is determined not by others but by my own outlook.

Today no more having limits placed on me
I am now able to become who I was created to be.
I will not be made into someone I will soon resent
But when they see me coming they will know I’m confindent.

Because today I made a decision to be better than who I’ve been
There’s no more fear of failure, I only in it to win.
I know people will question what caused me to change
Today I just decided to not look back and dare to never be the same.

No longer the person that took whatever came her way.
Instead I’m taking back what was taken from me, right now, yes today.
All the joy, the peace, even my testimony.
It’s always been meant for my light to shine for everyone to see.

Today it begins with me, tearing down generations of walls.
Everything that held my people back and cause them to fall.
Today is different, like no other day I have seen.
I challenge you to come with me, come see what I mean.
