THE DAILY SHOW, November 16, 2011 -- Super committee deficit negotiations aren’t going well. At all. And guess who’s not surprised?

Jon Stewart, who rattled off the deficit-reduction groups of yore — including the five people you meet in heaven and the three tenors.

Now, if the super committee doesn’t reach a deal, it will trigger $1.2 trillion of spending cuts of the next decade. But some lawmakers are insisting that “trigger” can be un-triggered.

“You know, Congress, this is why people don’t like you,” Stewart said. “I know enough about society to know that you cannot give people the power to both penalize and absolve themselves. We would always choose absolution.”

So can Congress agree on anything? Yes, as a matter off act: the tomato paste slathered on school cafeteria pizzas counts as a vegetable.

“It’s not democracy,” Stewart said, “it’s DiGiorno.”
