HUFFINGTON POST, January 5, 2012 -- MSNBC contributor and political analyst Melissa Harris-Perry will host her own show for the network starting in February.

Harris-Perry tweeted the news on Thursday, and wrote that her new show will follow Chris Hayes' weekend program, "Up With Chris." The new show, which does not yet have a title, will air on Saturday and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The show will debut on Saturday, February 4.

Harris-Perry has been a frequent guest on MSNBC, with appearances on "The Rachel Maddow Show," Al Sharpton's "PoliticsNation," and "The Last Word With Lawrence O'Donnell." Harris-Perry has also filled in for hosts Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell.

The addition of Harris-Perry's show marks additional scheduling changes for the network's weekend programming. "Up With Chris," which previously aired at different times on Saturdays and Sundays, will now air on both days from 8-10:00 a.m. MSNBC weekend anchor Alex Witt will expand her live news coverage on Saturdays and Sundays. "Weekends with Alex Witt" will air from 7-8:00 a.m. on Saturdays, and 12-2:00 pm. on both Saturdays and Sundays.

Harris-Perry tweeted that she will remain as a professor of political science at Tulane University, and live in New Orleans during the week. Harris-Perry is also a columnist for The Nation.

I am sure Rachel LOVES this. MHP has been sort of a protege of RM--as Irma knows--and I bet she has been pushing for this.

MHP always has an interesting and perceptive take on relevent issues. I was hoping she would get her own show.

Irma--that is exactly right about the classy reporting of both RM and MHP. Don't forget--they both have a strong academic background--bioth are Ph. Ds. And it shows in the depth of their knowledge and insights!!!

Good to see the national conversation elevated in time for the 2012 election.

Thanks Rich as I knew nothing about any of this...So great to hear as it is hard to go without MSNBC for so many hours.lol. (smile)

And, yes I know Rachel is tickled pink over this...Can't wait to hear about his over on Fox and yes on CNN as I believe CNN is now trying to get Lemon in during the week. "I" only hope they learn that tis is more about educators (current events in our society's evolution) than skin color, but a giant step forward at any rate for us all. (smile)
