01/06/2012 Herman Cain says he will deliver ' unconventional endorsement ' The one-time Republican candidate, who dropped out last month before any votes were cast, said on MSNBC's Now with Alex Wagner that he would deliver an "unconventional endorsement" a few days before the South Carolina primary, which is on Jan 21.

The comments leave open the possibility that Cain will not endorse one of the remaining GOP candidates, but rather make a broad endorsement of Republican voters and principles or his own ideas, such as his 9-9-9 tax proposal. Pressed by Wagner on what he meant, Cain remained vague. "I believe all of the remaining candidates are conventional, so I'm saying my endorsement will be unconventional," Cain said.

Cain left the Republican primary with little public support, so it's not clear if his endorsement would really help any of his one-time rivals. His candidacy raised questions about his knowledge of issues, as he struggled to answer basic questions in some interviews and also his character after allegations of s*xual harassment emerged. The businessman again emphasized he would like to be Secretary of Defense in a Republican administration, noting in the interview "I have run big organizations."
