STEPHEN COLBERT MOCKS RICK SANTORUM FOR "I DON'T WANT TO MAKE BLAH? PEOPLE'S LIVES BETTER..." GOOF

HUFFINGTON POST, January 10, 2012 -- "Rick Santorum offends black people. Gays, take the day off."

Rick Santorum has been defending allegations that he made a nakedly racist comment during a campaign stop in Iowa two days before the caucus.

The widely passed around clip appears to show Santorum saying, "I don't want to make black people's lives better by giving them somebody else's money, I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money." The statement seems to suggest that when pondering American's on welfare, Santorum regards it as specifically African-American problem.

But the GOP candidate is arguing that what many have a called a Freudian slip, was nothing more than a stutter, and that the "Bla..." in question, wasn't a word at all.

Colbert tackled the subject on Monday night's "Report," but not before first taking Santorum to task over his statement that even a dad in jail was better than no dad at all (i.e. two mommies). Colbert sarcastically defended the candidate as laying down the truth in a way that is often open to misinterpretation, bringing him, of course, to the "bla... people" at hand.

Check out Colbert's segment above and let us know what you think: was it a Freudian slip or a stutter that's been taken out of context?
