Anyway, as long as abortion (which is considered murder in Islam) is legal in this country and the man has no say.. I think it is hypocritical to call the father in question a deadbeat.

A mother can kill a man's child without permission -that's ok. However, if she wants the baby and he doesn't, he has to deal with it. If we all were more responsible and conscious this wouldn't really be a problem though. Life has a right to live.
