20th Day
Today is President's Day and with most of the nation's celebrating in some way their favorable president past or present there is also an celebration of 50 years of orbit in space history too. It was exactly 50 years today, February 20, 2012 that John Glen did his very first circle orbit around the earth. The total oribt took 4 hours and 55 minutes to complete. However, the space flight was really called delayed as Russia had placed the very first man in space 10 months before Glen's orbit.
As for President's Day, this day is celebrated every 3rd Monday in February and is also George Washington's Birthday. Congress declared the first President's Day in 1800. In addition, the day grew to celebrate all Presidents of the United States in commeration. Although it is celebrated as George Washington Birthday, Abraham Lincoln is just as widely celebrated on President's Day as notable as George Washington. George Washington served the term of presidency from 1789-1797. Abe Lincoln born, February 12th served a term of presidency from 1861-1865. That's two; or perhaps three orbits of history of this 3rd Monday in February.
Yet, there is one more orbit to add ... George Washington signed The Postal Service Act in 1792 thereby creating the U.S. Postal Service.
